Branch of the Bolshoi Theatre in Gomel

 
 
On 24 October 2013 a contract for the foundation of a branch of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus in Gomel was signed by Vladimir Gridyushko, the General Director of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus, and Ivan Kovalenko, the Director of the Culture and Sports Complex of Gomel Branch of the Belarusian Railway.

The 5-year contract provides for giving performances and concert programmes by the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus at the Railwaymen Palace of Culture.

The opening ceremony of the third branch of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus will be held on 30 October 2013. A performance of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake will be given at the Palace of Culture that seats over a thousand people.

The Palace opened after the reconstruction in May 2011 is equipped with modern sound and projection instruments as well as lightning. Due to architectural changes of the house, usage of new materials and special acoustic design the concert hall has a good resonance which has been fully appreciated by professional musicians.  

The first branch of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus was founded in December 2011 in Mogilev. A number of performances, including Don Quixote, Swan Lake, Carmen, Giselle, Evening of Old Art Songs, as well as concerts Strauss Invites, Opera Gala etc have been given since then.  

In April 2012, a gala of starts of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus opened the second branch of the theatre in Novopolotsk. The audience have seen Carmen Suite, Polovtsian Dances, The Three Little Pigs, Strauss Invites, Kaleidoscope of Popular Melodies, Evening of Old Art Songs, etc at the Naftan Palace of Culture and the Municipal Palace of Culture.  

Along with such major projects as the Evenings of the Bolshoi Theatre at the Radziwills’ Palace, Minsk International Christmas Opera Forum, Big New Year Ball, which have already become traditional, the aforementioned project of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre is an integral part of its educational and social mission.

Expanding the geography of the tours of its leading artists, the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus intends to present the treasures of the world classical music all over the country, to increase the audience, to find more opportunities for aesthetic education of the youth and familiarization of the audience with high art.
