MOMENTS OF 2017

January. On the Eve of Christmas the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus congratulated the winners and participants of the traditional "Christmas Tree Decoration” contest.

January.  On the Eve of the Old New Year the Big New Year's Ball took place for the 8th time. Traditionally, New Year’s theatre prizes from BelSwissBank JSC were awarded at the ball. The prizes went to the Honoured Artist of the Republic of Belarus, soloist of the opera company Alexander Keda, principal dancer Igor Onoshko, corps de ballet dancer Viktoria Beginina, orchestra musician Alexey Afanasyev and chorus artist Alexander Fokin.

January. Principal soloist of the ballet and leading master of stage Nadezhda Filippova was decorated with the Francysk Skaryna Medal.

January. The Symphony orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus is going on a concert tour throughout the largest cities of Germany with a grand concert programme featuring the music composed by John Williams for famous movies and television series.

January. The role of Amonasro in Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida was performed by the Russian baritone Sergei Moskalkov.

January. The People's Artist of Belarus Nina Sharubina became the chairperson of the council of the Belarusian President's culture and art support fund.

January. The role of Riccardo in Giuseppe Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera was performed by the Ukrainian tenor and soloist of the Lviv Opera Mykhailo Malafii. He is the first and audience prize winner of the 2nd Minsk International Christmas Singing competition.

January. The winner of international competitions Alexander Roslavets performed the role of Banquo in Giuseppe Verdi’s Macbeth.

February. The People’s Artist of Belarus Igor Artamonov became the winner of  the Republican contest "Man of the Year of Culture" in the nomination "Choreographic Art" and  soloist , recipient of Francysk Skaryna medal Yuri Gorodetsky won in the nomination “Theatre art".

February. The role of the Duke of Mantua in the opera Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi will be performed by the the winner of the Grand Prize of the 3rd Minsk International Singing Competition Tigran Ohanyan, the conductor was Maestro Kriss Russman.

 

February. The fairytale opera Magic Music by Mark Minkov staged by Galina Galkovskaya is 20 years on the stage.

February. Don Quixote will be performed in honor of the 70th anniversary of the People's Artist of Belarus Viktor Sarkisyan.

February.  The People’s Artist Azer Zeynalov appeared in the role of Canio in Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo.

February. The People's Artist of Belarus and chief chorus master of our theatre Nina Lomanovich was awarded the Order of Francysk Skaryna.

February. The Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus continues its series of educational programmes for young people.  The meeting of the management and artists of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus with the students of the Belarusian State Economic University took place.

February. The role of Cio-Cio-san in Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini was performed by the Honoured Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhannat Baktay.

February. The Honoured Artist of Azerbaijan and soloist of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre Afag Abbasova sang the title role of Aida in the eponymous opera by Giuseppe Verdi. The conductor was People’s Artist of Ukraine Maestro Hobart Earle. He is the artistic director and chief conductor of the Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra.

March. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko visited the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus, where he gained an insight of displayed works by nominees for the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus in the field of literature, art and architecture in the year 2016. Also he attended the gala concert of the stars of the Belarusian musical art.

 

March. The Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus became the most visited Belarusian theatre in 2016.

 

March. The role of Marfa in The Tsar's Bride by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov was performed by the soloist of Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre Nadezhda Pavlova, the winner of the grand and audience prizes of the 2nd Minsk International Christmas Singing competition.

 

March. The status of the guest soloists of the theatre was given to Nadezhda Pavlova, Alexander Roslavlets and Mykhailo Malafii.

 

March. One of the most famous operas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Die Zauberflöte premiered on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus as a part of the Austrian Cultural Season in Belarus.

April. Oksana Volkova — Solo. The diva of the Belarusian Opera and Honoured Artist of Belarus Oksana Volkova performed in her solo concert at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus.

April. According to the decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus ‘On awarding State Prizes of the Republic of Belarus in 2016’ in the area of literature, art and architecture, State Prizes were awarded to the artists of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of Belarus Oksana Volkova, Anastasia Moskvina, Stanislav Trifonov, Sergey Frankovsky, Nina Lomanovich and Alexander Kostiuchenko for considerable creative accomplishments in the development of musical art, promotion of spiritual values and significant personal contribution to the production of The Grey Legend to the music by Dmitry Smolsky, based on the novel by Vladimir Korotkevich.

April. The leading role in the opera Carmen by Georges Bizet was performed by the People's Artist of Azerbaijan, the soloist of Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre Fidan Hacıyeva. The conductor was Maestro Ayyub Guliyev (Azerbaijan).

April. The orchestra and chorus of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus took part in the grand tour with Hans Zimmer’s programme Film Music. They performed at the concert venues of Helsinki, Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, Leipzig, Vienna, Frankfurt and Zurich.

April. Cavalleria rusticana by Pietro Mascagni premiered at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus.

April. The Honoured Artist of the Republic of Belarus, recipient of the Francysk Skaryna Medal, manager of the opera company Nina Kozlova celebrated her jubilee.

May. The Honoured Artist of Russia, People's Artist of Tatarstan, winner of Russia’s "Golden Mask" Theatrical Award Ahmed Agadi and prima donna of the Kazakh Theatre “Astana Opera”, Honoured Artist of Kazakhstan Zhupar Gabdullina appeared in the of Maestro Puccini’s masterpiece Turandot.

May. One of the best basses of the world Alexander Teliga appeared as Daland in Richard Wagner’s Der Fliegende Holländer.

May. The Open Day was held at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus on the occasion of its birthday. More than four thousand spectators, admirers of opera and ballet art, came to free excursions to the theater on this day.

May. The Franco-Moroccan mezzo-soprano Mhamdi Ahlima performed the role of Carmen in the eponymous opera by Georges Bizet.

May. On the stage of the Belarusian Bolshoi The Fountain of Bakhchisarai by Boris Asafiev featured a brilliant duo from Kazakhstan: the leading soloist of the State Opera and Ballet Theatre "Astana Opera", winner of numerous international competitions, Honored worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan Tair Gatauov and winner of international competition, soloist of "Astana Opera" Nazerke Aimukhametova.

May. According to the decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus the Francysk Skaryna Medal was awarded to the principal soloist of the ballet company and leading master of stage Aleksandra Chizhik for the long-term fruitful work,  high professional skills and significant personal contribution to the development of art.

May. The wonderful Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s ballet Swan Lake, performed by the Belarusian artists, opened the Belarusian Culture Days in China.

 

May. During the Belarusian Culture Days in China and the performances of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus in Beijing, the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus renewed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Centre for the Performing Arts.

May. Gianluca Marcianò became the principal guest conductor of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus.

June. The leading opera soloist, recipient of the Fransysk Skaryna Medal Ilya Silchukov won the third prize of the International Vocal Competition in Portofino (Italy). The guest soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus Alexander Roslavets won the second prize.

June. Ballet dancers Aleksandra Chizhik and Konstantin Geronik awarded the grand prize and the title of the laureates of Special Fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus for the Support of Talented Youth. Viktor Mendelev received the incentive prize of the Special Fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus for Support of Talented Youth.

June. The traditional summer festival Ballet Summer at the Bolshoi took place. The programme includes performances of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus featuring eminent dancers, performances of Astana Ballet Theatre, and a gala concert of world ballet stars.

June. The legendary concertmaster and Honoured Artist of the Republic of Belarus Georgy Karant turned 70! In his honour the unique concert took place in the Chamber Hall.

June. For the 8th time the festival of opera and ballet art Evenings of the Bolshoi Theatre at the Radziwill castle took place. For three days musical and theatrical life moved from Minsk to Nesvizh.

June. The premiere of the ballet-parable by a Petersburg composer Mikhail Krylov based on the works of Viacheslav Zarenkov Orr and Ora staged by Aleksandra Tikhomirova was held with great success.

September. The Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus opened its jubilee 85th season with the premiere of Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata.

October. The Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus performed at the prestigious music venue, the concert hall Brucknerhaus, for the first time. For two nights the company presented Iolanta by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and concert programme of Russian classical music.

October. Classical ballet Le Corsaire by Adolphe Adam premiered at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus.

October. The People's Artist of Belarus, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus, leading opera soloist Sergey Frankovsky turned 55!

October. The celebratory evening of Maestro Andrei Galanov, dedicated to his 50th birthday, took place on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus.

October. The soloist of the ballet company of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia Gennadi Yanin performed his signature role of Modest in Anyuta by Valery Gavrilin.

October. The soloist of the Tbilisi Z.Paliashvili State Opera and Ballet Theatre  and ‘Golden Voice of Georgia’ performed the role of Canio in the Ruggero Leoncavallo’s masterpiece Pagliacci.

October. The grand ballet Spartacus by Aram Khachaturian, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the People’s Artist of the USSR Valentin Elizariev, took place at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus.

November. Anniversary Celebration Gala of the People’s Artist of the USSR Valentin Elizariev featuring Stars of World and Belarusian Ballet took place on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus.

 

November. Gala concert of laureates of the State prize gathered the best masters of the Belarusian Bolshoi stage in the unique programme. 

 

November. The ceremony of the commemorative stamp cancellation took place at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus. Their release was dedicated to 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Uruguay.

 

November. The leading soloist of the Tbilisi State Opera and Ballet Theatre performed the title role in the Alexander Crain’s Laurencia on the Belarusian stage.

 

November. The Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus presented the Celebratory Evening of the People’s Artist of Russia Andris Liepa ‘Diaghilev Gala’.

 

November. The tour of the orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus in Germany, Austria and Switzerland started. The audience can hear the music of the Walt Disney’s beloved fairy stories on the big venues of Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg, Zurich, Vienna, Augsburg, Frankfurt, Nuremberg, Oberhausen, Graz.

December. The 4th Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition brought together 111 artists from 16 countries. The grand prize won the young bass from Armenia Sargis Bazhbeuk-Melikyan.

 

December. The 8th Minsk International Christmas Opera Forum was completely sold out. The Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic – European Art Centre in Białystok made its appearance on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus for the first time.

 

December. For the seventh consecutive year, the ballet company of the Belarusian Bolshoi went on a tour through the big cities and small towns of Austria and Germany with the performances of Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, or Another Christmas Story.

 

The Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus finishes 2017 with The Nutcracker featuring ballet dancers of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus and students of the Belarusian State Choreographic Gymnasium-College.
