On 30 and 31 October the story of Belarusian Joan of Arc Anastasia Slutskaya will be performed on the Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus. The ballet is staged by the People's Artist of Belarus Yury Trayan.

‘Creating a national project, we draw attention to our history and situation before us. And this is very important…’ Trayan said. ‘The story of Anastasia Slutskaya is complicated and intricate, but for the theatre stage it is very interesting. But, of course, it is necessary to understand that ballet is not a historical study. We create the choreographic legend and disseminate there the facts that occurred in the fate of the main characters as organically as possible.

Yes, Anastasia organized the defense of Slutsk. It is a historical fact. But I'm interested in showing prehistory. I want to show what this woman went through. She could gather an army and lead it. That's what I'm wondering…

There are five main characters in the ballet: Anastasia, Mikhail Glinski, Simeon Slutsky, Khan Ahmed and his daughter, Zaira. Each character is bright and highly technical. And when the roles were assigned, it turned out that almost all of our leading soloists were engaged in this project.’

The Honoured Artist of the Republic of Belarus, laureate of the State Prize Vyacheslav Kuznetsov again took music from the era of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. (His ballet Vitaut appeared in the repertoire of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus in 2013). This time the listener will be in Slutsk of the 15th century. Musical director of the ballet will be the recipient of the Francysk Skaryna Medal Andrei Galanov.

The author of the libretto is Anatoly Delendik. Set designer is the recipient of the Francysk Skaryna Medal, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Kostiuchenko and costume designer is Ekaterina Bulgakova.

The performance will feature Olga Gaiko, Maryna Vezhnavets, Irina Eromkina, Viktoryia Trenkina, Liudmila Ulantsava, Nadzeya Filipava, Anna Fokina, Liudmila Khitrova, Aleksandra Chizhik, Yana Shtangei, Artem Bankovsky, Konstantin Geronik, Oleg Eromkin, Yury Kavaliou, Anton Kravchenko, Takatoshi Machiyama, Ivan Savenkov and others.
