Carmen. Italy — France – Belarus

 

On 24 May soloists from France and Italy will perform the lead roles in Carmen, which is traditionally dedicated to the birthday of the theatre.


Yaroslava Kozina, a native of Minsk, will appear as Carmen. She graduated from Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon and continued her studies in the “Jeunes Voix du Rhin” (Young Voices of the Rhine) Opera Studio in Strasbourg. In 2004–08 she was a member of Theater Bremen. She also performed at many famous European venues in Bordeaux, Bilbao, Lille, Madrid, nice and Liege, as well as in Aachen, Berlin, Essen, Freiburg, Frankfurt, Wiesbaden. Yaroslava Kozina also has an extensive concert repertoire and performs in Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Lyon, Paris and other cities.


Her repertoire includes most of the leading mezzo-soprano roles, such as Bizet’s Carmen, Massenet’s Dulcinea (Don Quixote), Charlotte (Werther), Delilah (Samson and Delilah), Maddalena (Rigoletto), Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera), Fenena (Nabucco), Federica (Luisa Miller), Romeo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), etc.


On the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus Yaroslava Kozina performs for the first time.


The Italian tenor Francesco Medda will perform the role of José. He took voice lessons al the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory in Florence and then graduated from the Giuseppe Verdi Academy in Parma. He has won numerous competitions, such as the Giuseppe Di Stefano Contest, International Modena Municipal Theatre Competition, and also received an international scholarship with the Amici del Loggione association. Furthermore, Francesco studied alongside Franco Corelli, Gianni Raimondi and Carlo Bergonzi.


In 2006, he debuted as Cavaradossi in Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca at the International Festival of San Marino. Not long after, he took on the role of Verdi’s Othello at the Fidenza Magnani Theatre, singing with the Regio Theatre of Parma’s orchestra and chorus, conducted by Riccardo Canessa. Travelling aboard the wake of success obtained, Maestro Rabaglia invited him to take part in his very own Tosca in Perm, Ekaterimburg and Chelyabinsk.


Francesco Medda has worked with outstanding conductors Riccardo Chailly, Richard Bonynge, Romano Gandolfi, Piero Bellugi and directors Franco Zeffirelli , Michel Van Hoecke, Beppe De Tomasi and others. He collaborates with Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana in Piacenza, every year he is invited to take part in the Concerto di Chiaravalle della Colombo, which was filmed and broadcasted on a number of television channels.
