Vyacheslav Chernukho-Volich


Recipient of the Francysk Skaryna Medal (2009)

Graduated from the Belarussian State Academy of Music (class of the People’s Artist of Russia, Professor Gennady Provatorov) and completed master’s degree course (supervisor of studies is People’s Artist of Belarus, Professor Alexander Anisomov). He is the laureate of the First National Theatre Prize of the Republic of Belarus (for the production Nabucco by G. Verdi). He was awarded the Belarus Trade Union Federation prize in literature and art, Francysk Skaryna Medal, Special Prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus to Cultural Workers for the major personal contribution to restoring of old Belarusian music. From 2001 to 2006 he was the chief guest conductor of the Mersin State Opera and Ballet company (Turkey). Since 1993 Alexander has been the conductor of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus. In 2003 – 2004 he was the chief conductor of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus.


He is the musical director of the following operas The Pearl Fishers by Georges Bizet; Nabucco, La traviata, Aida by Giuseppe Verdi; La boheme, Turandot by Giacomo Puccini; Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo; Cavalleria rusticana by Pietro Mascagni; Boris Godunov by Modest Mussorgsky; Tsar’s Bride by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and ballets The Fairy’s Kiss, The Firebird, The Sacred Spring by Igor Stravinsky; The Legend of Thyl Ulenspiegel by Evgeny Glebov; Serenade by Pyotr Tchaikovsky; Vitaut by Vyacheslav Kuznetsov; Seven Beauties by Kara Karayev. He carried out the world premiere of the opera Jubilee by Sergey Kortes (Soloturn, Switzerland). In the repertoire there are more than 30 operas and ballets by West European, Russian and national composers. 


Vyacheslav Chernukho-Volich actively cooperates with the famous opera theatres of Russia and Europe, among which there are Stanislavski and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre, Kolobov Novaya Opera Theatre of Moscow, Akhundov Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, Jalil Opera and Ballet Theatre in the Republic of Tatarstan etc.
In 2012 he worked on the production of Sergei Prokofiev's War and Peace at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre.

He is the participant of international singing festivals (including the Chaliapin festival), performs with the Belarusian and foreign orchestras, lives a rich touring and concert live.

Also he is the author of creative programmes and projects of the Belarusian Bolshoi Theatre, among which there are ‘Opera Night at the Mir Castle’, ‘Ýoung Talents of Belarus’, ‘The Evenings of the Bolshoi Theatre at the Radziwill Castle’.
