Music Day and Ballet Day at the Bolshoi

Viktor Ploskina, principal conductor of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus: ‘Poetry explains in words the things that painting cannot clearly express. But the things that poetry can't explain are felt through music, because music is beyond words, it soars above all: it brings beauty, strength, charm, but most importantly, it elevates a person and his or her soul. That's why we will open this evening with Ludwig van Beethoven's Fifth Symphony "Thus Fate Knocks at the Door." The composer wrote 9 symphonies, all of them being masterpieces. And the Fifth Symphony is a work of genius! The double motif of four bars would not seem to be taken serious at first sight, but Beethoven created a unique piece of enormous power! This is the music that elevates the person to another spiritual level...

It’s not once that I have conducted this Symphony, and like any great creation, it sounds different in every company. I have no doubt that it will sound special also on 1 October at the Belarusian Bolshoi when performed by our orchestra."

Not only music but also dance will hold power in the second part of the programme. Just before Le Corsaire premiere at the Bolshoi Theatre, the audience coming to the theatre on the evening of 1 October will be the first to see fragments of the new production and to admire the beauty of academic dance.

The evening will feature outstanding musicians and brilliant dancers of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus.

The concert will be conducted by the Honoured Artist of Ukraine Viktor Ploskina and the Honoured Art Worker of the Republic of Belarus Nikolai Koliadko.
