The Tsar’s Bride

 

 

On 25 October the performance of The Tsar’s Bride will be conducted by the People’s Artist of Belarus, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Anisimov.

Alexander Anisimov is among the most respected musicians of our time. The conductor achieved recognition on both opera and philharmonic stages. A few decades of the history of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus are connected with the name of the maestro.
 
In 1980-1984 and in 1989-2003 Alexander Anisimov was the principal conductor of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus. As a music director, he prepared a number of productions, including Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto, Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, Ivan Susanin by Mikhail Glinka, Georges Bizet’s Carmen, Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk by Dmitri Shostakovich, Maddalena by Sergey Prokofiev (the first production in the USSR), the national productions of Barrow by Eugene Glebov, The New Land by Yury Semenyako, The Master and Margarita by Eugene Glebov, etc.

In different years, Anisimov was the principal conductor of Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre (the first production of The Fiery Angel by Sergey Prokofiev, 1984), National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, Philharmonic Orchestra of Busan (Korea), Rostov State Musical Theatre; since 2011 he has been the principal conductor of Samara Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre.

Since 2002, Anisimov has been the principal conductor of the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus.

As a guest conductor, Alexander Anisimov has appeared at opera houses and concert venues of numerous cities of the former Soviet Union, including the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia and the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg.


His international appearances include Houston Grand Opera, San Francisco Opera, Teatro Colón (Argentina), State Opera of South Australia, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Staatsoper Hannover, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Staatsoper Berlin, Opéra National de Paris, Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, Puccini Festival Klagenfurt (Austria). The maestro works with the Dutch Symphony Orchestra, philharmonic orchestras of St Petersburg, Warsaw, Monte Carlo, Rotterdam, Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and Hungarian National Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Nuremberg Philharmonic Orchestra, Australian Youth Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London. After the concert in Rome the orchestra of St Cecilia Academy presented the maestro with Leonard Bernstein’s baton.


The maestro regularly works with the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland, including their common work on the premiere of Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen. He also cooperates with the Irish Opera and the Wexford Festival Opera. Anisimov is the President of the Wagner Society of Ireland. For the outstanding contribution to the musical life of Ireland, Alexander Anisimov was awarded the title of doctor honoris causa by the National University of Ireland.


In July 2014, he was decorated with the French Order of Merit.


The 25 October performance of The Tsar’s Bride under the baton of maestro Anisimov will feature the People’s Artist of Belarus Vladimir Petrov as Gryaznoy, Alla Guba-Ploskina as Marfa, winner of an international competition Kriskentia Stasenko as Lyubasha, Alexander Mikhniuk as Lykov (1st performance), Honoured Artists of the Republic of Belarus Oleg Melnikov as Malyuta and Alexander Keda as Sobakin.
