Head of State Visit

On 6 March, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko visited the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus, where he gained an insight of the displayed works by the nominees for the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus in the field of literature, art and architecture in the year 2016.



Spanish passion with Azerbaijani character

On 20 April, the scene of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus will feature the fatal beauty, who breaks men's hearts with just one glance. On 20 April, the lead part in the opera Carmen by Georges Bizet will be performed by the People's Artist of Azerbaijan, the soloist of Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre Fidan Hacıyeva. The conductor is Maestro Ayyub Guliyev (Azerbaijan).

Step aside — the jester is coming!

This opera is referred to by many musicians as one of the most beautiful operas ever composed by great Giuseppe Verdi. The genius composer himself thought that of all the stories that he ever wrote music to, that one was the best. On 8 April, a tragic and beautiful opera Rigoletto is on at the Belarusian Bolshoi.



A prayer for Ragneda

On April 21, the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus invites its devotees for the theme event. Our theatrical temple of arts will turn into a real sanctuary: for the first time a “prayer in bronze” will be lifted up in our theatre. The director of the school of bell ringers of the Minsk Eparchial leadership and the head of the department of bell ringers of the Minsk Theological College, the winner of international competitions, Master of Arts Bogdan Berezkin will introduce to the visitors of the Bolshoi Theatre the music programme “Easter Bells”, which will be performed on the unique mobile Belarusian belfry.



A day of music and laughter

For the third season running we are giving the joy to the young viewers: an entertainment programme takes place before almost every matinee performance as a part of the “The Bolshoi Theatre for Children" programme in the foyer of the Theatre.



Oksana Volkova — Solo

On 13 April, the diva of the Belarusian Opera, the Honoured Artist of Belarus Oksana Volkova will perform in her solo concert at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus.  The voice of this outstanding Belarusian singer is known to the opera devotees all over the world: she shone in Theatro alla Scala in Milan and at the Royal Opera in Covent Garden in London, on the stage of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo and Opéra de Nice in France, in San Carlo Theatre in Naples and in Salzburg in Austria, in the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and Metropolitan Opera in New York. The singer has collaborated with such outstanding conductors as Valery Gergiev, Vladimir Spivakov, James Conlon, Alexander Vedernikov, Vassily Sinaisky, Semyon Bychkov, and many others.

Olga Gaiko, ‘Ballet is not just about working at the barre, it’s about creating art on the stage.’

The main chronicler of style and fashion Alexander Vasilyev called her Belarusian Maya Plisetskaya. Such a comparison is quite justified: both soared to the ballet Olympus thanks to their boundless talent coupled with incredible determination; both became the guarantors of the quality of each performances where they dance. Spectacular and memorable, the Muse of artists and fashion photographers, the prima ballerina of the Belarusian Bolshoi performed all the iconic ballet roles. It is noteworthy to mention that in each of her roles you can find the features of Olga Gaiko, and vise virsa: a piece of her heroines in her.



April. Anniversaries

This month, we cannot help but remember two great artists, who at their times were the pride and glory of the Belarusian Bolshoi. On 28 April, the Honoured Artist of Belarus Leonid Chekhovsky will be 80 years old. On 17 April, the People's Artist Leonid Brazhnik would have turned 100 years.

 

Yury Bastrikov – knightly baritone

On 8 April, the People's Artist of Belarus Yuri Bastrikov would have turned 80 years. The singer shone in the parts of classical repertoire: Rigoletto and Amonasro, Rodrigo and Germont, Renato and Figaro, Escamillo and Valentin, Scarpia and Sharpless, Igor Svyatoslavich, Gryaznoi etc. In The Tales of Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach, the singer performed the roles of Lindorf, Coppelius, Dapertutto and Miracle. His extraordinary powerful dramatic baritone was heard in operas by Belarusian composers, such as The Star of Venus by Yuri Semenyako and Andrey Kostenya by Nikolay Aladov, Giordano Bruno and The Lady’s Visit by Sergey Kortes, Galka by Stanislaw Moniuszko and Life Path  by Heinrich Wagner, King Stach's Wild Hunting by Vladimir Soltan and The Prince of Novograd by Andrey Bondarenko. People's Artist of Belarus Natalia Gaida shares her recollections of the personality and the creative life of her late husband and singer.



Valery Mironov

April 7 will mark 90 years since the birth of People's Artist of Belarus, the soloist of the Belarusian ballet Valery Mironov. With love and awe, his third wife Ninel Andronova shares her memories of the dancer.

Sunny evenings in Israel

Airport was pleasantly noisy. The glass walls were glittering in the sun. Our guests were laughing, but there was sadness in their eyes. From Israel they were going home to a bright winter day. I stood there and watched the soloists of the Belarusian Opera who came to Israel with operetta hits programme: beautiful, musical, creative, joyous who became out friends  in just a week.

The woman who sings...

On 11 April, a “Woman’s Confession” concert will take place at the Larisa Aleksandrovskaya Chamber Hall. According toTatiana Petrova, the author of the concert, she first came up with the name of the concert and only then began to put the programme together.

 

 

 

To give people wings

On the eve of International Dance Day which is celebrated worldwide on 29 April, the magazine Parterre talked about this form of art, incredibly beautiful on the one hand and tough and demanding on the other hand, with the choreographer and a director of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus, the winner of the Francysk Skaryna Medal Aleksandra Tikhomirova.
