Alexander Roslavets in Der fliegende Holländer

 

 

On 21 September the role of Daland in Der fliegende Holländer by Richard Wagner will be sung by Alexander Roslavets, a guest soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus.

Alexander Roslavets is a regular participant of numerous music festivals and a guest singer of distinguished opera houses. The Belarusian opera admirers discovered the name of the young bass at the 1st Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition. He was a finalist of the Minsk Competition and was offered an engagement with the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus as a special prize, followed by his successful debut in Il barbiere di Siviglia by Gioachino Rossini and participation in the concert of young singers “La canzone italiana”. Last season, Alexander Roslavets joined the Belarusian Bolshoi company as a guest singer and since then has performed almost all bass roles of its repertoire, including Banquo in Giuseppe Verdi’s Macbeth, Prince Gremin in Eugene Onegin, King René in Iolanta by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia.

A citizen of Brest, Alexander Roslavets graduated from the Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory. In 2011-2014 he was a soloist of the Opera and Ballet Theatre of St Petersburg Conservatory. In 2014, he was awarded grand prize at the Review Competition of Singers-Graduates of Music Higher Educational Institutions of Russia (St Petersburg), followed by his joining the Young Artists Opera Programme of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia the same year.


His repertoire includes leading roles in world masterpieces, such as the Old Gypsy and Aleko in Sergey Rachmaninov’s Aleko; Marchese d'Obigny in Giuseppe Verdi’s La traviata; Prince Gremin in Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin; King René in Thaikovsky’s Iolanta; Prince Gudal in The Demon by Anton Rubinstein; the Commander, Leporello in The Stone Guest by Alexander Dargomyzhsky; Malyuta Skuratov in The Tsar’s Bride by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov; Tsar Dodon in The Golden Cockerel by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov; Cuno and Killan in Carl Maria von Weber’s Der Freischütz; Don Basilio in Gioachino Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia; Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; Mefistofele in Charles Gounod’s Faust; Tom in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera; bass roles in Mozart’s and Verdi’s Requiem, Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D minor.

The 21 September performance of Der fliegende Holländer will also feature Vladimir Petrov as the Dutchman, Elena Zolova as Senta, Eduard Martynyuk as Erik, Natalia Akinina as Mary, Yury Gorodetsky as the Steersman, and will be conducted by Viktor Ploskina.
