Easter Bells at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus

The director of the school of bell ringers of the Minsk Eparchial leadership and the head of the department of bell ringers of the Minsk Theological College, the winner of international competitions, Master of Arts Bogdan Berezkin will introduce to the visitors of the Bolshoi Theatre the music programme “Easter Bells”, which will be performed on the only mobile Belarusian belfry. It will be the only night  when Mr. Bogdan Berezkin will tell and show the visitors of the Belarusian Bolshoi which bells participate in the Easter Chime and the Toll, he will demonstrate the chime of the largest and the smallest bells that constitute the foundation of Orthodox bell-ringing. You will learn about the history of the bells represented in the mobile belfry and of the method of their production, and you will be able to experience the mystical effect of the “prayer in bronze.”

Bell chimes are said to be able to cure people from their soul and body diseases. The same miraculous effect is attributed to true art. On April 21, a ballet-legend, a dance biopic about the Princess with three names will be presented on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus. The ballet Passions (Rogneda) by Andrey Mdivani directed by the People’s Artist of USSR Valentin Elizariev became a sensation at the Benois de la Danse International Ballet Festival in 1996, and was awarded the prize “Benois de la Danse”.

The tragedy of the life of the unbowed Polotsk Prince Rogvolod’s daughter is one of the most outstanding in the Belarusian history. The rebellious and wayward beautiful Princess, betrothed to the Prince of Kiev Yaropolk, refused to marry his brother, Novgorod Prince Vladimir instead. The angered Vladimir together with his warriors went to Polotsk, destroyed the Rogvolod family, and forcibly took Rogneda for his wife. Eventually, he also did away with his brother, which got him the throne of Kiev.

We invite you to join in our celebration of the national musical and choreographic art. The beginning of the programme “Easter Bells”  is at 18.15 in the theater foyer. We promise the programme will be fascinating!
