The Italian company Spellbound Contemporary Ballet will perform Rossini Overtures at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus. The performance of Italian choreographer Mauro Astolfi will open IFMC-2018- 31st International Festival of Modern Choreography.

Spellbound Contemporary Ballet was founded in 1994 by choreographer Mauro Astolfi. Earliar he worked in the dance companies of prominent American choreographers Paul Taylor and Merce Cunningham. Back in Italy he founded his theatre, then two years later he was joined by Valentina Marini, and since then the company has enjoyed strong international growth.

Spellbound Contemporary Ballet has prepared a variety of international projects: from gala concerts to television programmes, from stage performances to international festivals. Thanks to excellent skill of performers, universal language of authorial choreography and rich repertoire Spellbound company is appreciated in the best theatres of the world and at the international festivals. The company appeared in Serbia, Germany, France, Croatia, Switzerland, Austria, Russia, USA, Israel, Panama, Canada, Thailand and other countries. Mauro Astolfi's choreographic experiments were demonstrated at the Venice Biennale and opened the Picasso Foundation in Malaga.

On 20 November Spellbound Contemporary Ballet will perform Rossini Overtures, which is dedicated to the artistic and human figure of Gioachino Rossini. Choreographer Mauro Astolfi was inspired by the music and extraordinary biography of the composer, which the choreographer calls "organized madness".

Thinking about Rossini’s works Mauro Astolfi admits that the source of inspiration for him was primarily the composer’s music: ‘his music was extreme, the mark of a greater force and energy, and I purposely tried to create extreme choreography, loaded with energy, vitality, encounters, seduction, suggestions.’

‘Such a powerful and unique artist who created Il Barbiere di Sivigliain just in 13 days, literally filled my mind with ideas, images, symbols’ Mauro Astolfi said. ‘My impressions are not related to any specific works of the composer, it is an exciting journey through the magnificent artistic world created by Rossini. I was struck by the power of his music, and in that shining moment I felt that I knew him.’

In the Rossini Overtures the audience will go on a fabulous journey made up of memories and a variety of stories. The characters of the ballet are cheerful, lonely, sad and brave. They live, create, travel in a symbolic and mysterious reality-a magical, wonderful world, which is nothing more than a great archive, a secret house of Rossini, in which he kept and collected his magic, his discoveries, his love. There are mixed flavors and colors of eventful life, which was not only full of problems and fears, but also exciting and sensual.’
