Our history

 

January. On the Eve of Christmas the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus congratulated the winners and participants of the traditional "Christmas Tree Decoration” contest and amazing crafts decorated the Christmas tree in the foyer of the theatre.

January.  On the Eve of the Old New Year the Big New Year's Ball took place for the 9th time. Traditionally, New Year’s theatre prizes from BelSwissBank JSC were awarded at the ball. The prizes went to the opera soloist Alexander Mikhniuk, principal dancer Takatoshi Machiyama, corps de ballet dancer Tatiana Dubatovka, orchestra musician Veronica Chaikouskaya and chorus artist Ilya Pevzner.

January.   The Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus took part in memorial events dedicated to the International Holocaust Remembrance Day for the first time. Magnificent Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem was conducted by Amos Talmon (Israel).

January. The traditional “New Year's” tour of our ballet company in Austria and Germany with the ballets Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, or Another Christmas Story... came to an end.

January. The national ballet Vitaut by Vyacheslav Kuznetsov was successfully welcomed in Vilnius.

February. The ballet company of the Belarusian Bolshoi toured with Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake in Mexico. Our artists performed at 25 theatre venues for 48 days.

February.  The national ballet Passions (Rogneda) was performed on our stage in honour of the anniversary of the outstanding composer, People's Artist of Belarus, laureate of the State Prizes of the Republic of Belarus Andrey Mdivani.

 February. The first creative meeting was held within the framework of the theatre’s new action "Masters of the arts for internal troops and internal affairs bodies of the Republic of Belarus".

February. Prima donna of the Belarusian Bolshoi Oksana Volkova was awarded the diploma "Man of the Year of Culture" in the nomination "Theatre Art".

February. Chief set designer of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus Alexander Kostiuchenko turns 60. On this occasion Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades was performed on our stage.

February. Premiere of Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca (the sixth in the history of theatre). It was directed by Mikhail Pandzhavidze. He did it together with musical director Gianluca Marcianò and designer Alexander Kostiuchenko.

March. The leading tenor of Mariinsky Theatre and guest soloist of the Belarusian  Bolshoi performed the role of Calaf  in Turandot by Giacomo Puccini.

March. Gala concert with the participation of the stars of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus and finalists of The Big Opera took place on our stage.

March. The leading soloists of the State Ballet of Georgia Nino Samadashvili and Nutsa Chekurashvili appeared on the Belarusian stage in the fabulous role of Firebird.

March. According to the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus is the most visited theatre in 2017. 227,5 thousand (!) spectators visited our productions and concerts.

March. The exhibition "Theater. Inside", dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus, took place in the "University of culture" gallery.

March. Opera soloist Alexander Gelakh was awarded the grand prize and the title of the laureate of Special Fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus for the Support of Talented Youth.

April. Akhmed Agadi appeared in the role of Radames in Aida by Giuseppe Verdi.

April. An exhibition "Since those early days to the present time" dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Bolshoi Theatre was opened at the National Library of Belarus.  70 posters without many words tell about the most significant milestones in the history of the Belarusian Bolshoi since its birth on 25 May 1933 to the present time.

May. Maestro Eyyub Guliyev, whose name is included in the “Golden Book” of Azerbaijan's Young Talents, conducted GiuseppeVerdi's Aida on the stage of Belarusian Bolshoi. The guest soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus Akhmed Agadi performed the role of Radames in Aida by Giuseppe Verdi.

May. Gala concert dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus starring the leading soloists of our theatre and guest opera and ballet stars and opera Carmen with participation of the Franco-Moroccan mezzo-soprano Ahlima Mhamdi were the culmination of the jubilee season.

May. About 5 000 spectators came to congratulate their beloved theatre!

May. The gala concert with the participation of the leading artists of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus and an exhibition dedicated to the anniversary of the theatre were held in the Business and Cultural Complex of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the Russian Federation.

June. Igor Stravinsky’s Petrushka staged by People's Artist of Russia Andris Liepa premiered at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus. The Honoured Artist of Ukraine Viktor Ploskina is musical director and Anatoly Nezhny is designer.

June. Ballet Summer at the Bolshoi, a marathon of choreographic performances, bright premieres, guest performances of the recognized world ballet stars took place at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus.

June. The Symphony orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus and about our chorus artists went to conquer the world's largest music venue – the Elbphilharmonie for the first time!

June. More than 4,000 spectators came to the courtyard of Radziwill Castle to admire “Evenings of the Bolshoi Theatre at the Radziwill Castle”.

June. At the end of the season, the famous Belarusian maestro, People's Artist of Belarus Alexander Anissimov was appointed to the post of conductor of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus and adviser to the general director on the prospects of musical development of the theatre.

June. Memorandum of understanding with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg was signed.

August. The soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus Margarita Levchuk won awards at three international competitions: 8th International Competition of Classical Music in Pesaro, 2nd International Opera Singing Competition “Bellano Paese degli Artisti” and 2nd Berliner International Music Competition.

September. The Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus hosted a solemn event dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the consecration of the memorial church in honour of the Holy and Right-believing Alexander Nevsky.

September. One of the most famous Russian tenors, guest soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus Akhmed Agadi performed the role of Cavaradossi in Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca.

September. The principal dancers Liudmila Khitrova, Еkaterina Oleynik and Konstantin Geronik were awarded the title “Honoured Artist of the Republic of Belarus”.

September. 27-year-old Belarusian tenor Pavel Petrov won the prestigious competition Plácido Domingo’s Operalia in Lisbon.

September. Musicians of the Symphony orchestra of the theatre took part in the “Venezianischen Messe” festival in Germany (Ludwigsburg) with concerts “Classic Meets Pop” and “Opera Gala” for the first time.

September. The People’s Artist of the USSR and outstanding choreographer Valentin Elizariev has been appointed artistic director of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus. 

September. The title role in Giuseppe Verdi’s Macbeth was performed by the soloist of the National Opera of Ukraine Hennadii Vashchenko.

October. The Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus celebrated the International Music Day and the World Ballet Day with a gala concert.

October.  The leading soloists of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus were on tour in France. Russian opera Aleko by Sergei Rachmaninoff and Iolanta by Pyotr Tchaikovsky opened the new seasons of the largest theatre venues in Rennes, Angers and Nantes (France).

October.  The unique evening with the participation of the ballerina, theatre and film actress, TV host and People's Artist of Russia Ilze Liepa as well as leading artists of Moscow and St. Petersburg theatres will take place at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus.

October. The soloist of the Mikhailovsky Theatre Anna Nalbandyants performed the role of Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte.

October. Wilhelm Keitel in the opera Der fliegende Holländer.

October. Richard Strauss Salome with a choreographic prologue was successfully performed at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus.

October. Oleg Khodosko’s Thumbelina premiered on the stage of the theatre within the program "Children for children". The performance featured students of the Marina Vezhnovets Ballet School.

October. The story of Belarusian Joan of Arc Anastasia Slutskaya was performed on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus. The ballet is staged by the People's Artist of Belarus Yury Trayan. The author of the libretto is Anatoly Delendik. Set designer is the recipient of the Francysk Skaryna Medal, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Kostiuchenko and costume designer is Ekaterina Bulgakova.

November. Our musicians continue their large-scale tour "The World of Hans Zimmer. A Symphonic Celebration". They performed Hans Zimmer’s music in Basel (Switzerland), Ghent (Belgium), Oberhausen, Munich (Germany) and Rotterdam (Holland).

November. The Italian company Spellbound Contemporary Ballet performed Rossini Overtures at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus.

November. The stars of the Mariinsky Theatre Vladimir Galouzine and Nataliya Tymchenko will perform in Giuseppe Verdi’s masterpiece Aida.

November. The concert “Masterpieces of Choral Operatic Music” was successfully held on the stage of the theatre. The main character of this magnificent concert was a bright, expressive, emotional, sonorous chorus of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus.

December. New version of Sergei Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet premiered with great success on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus. It was staged by Valentin Elizariev.

December. The Symphony orchestra of the theatre again performed in Western Europe (Germany, Switzerland and Austria). The audience can hear the music of the Walt Disney’s beloved fairy stories on the big venues.

December. The 5th Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition brought together a record number of participants (170 artists from 18 countries). The grand prize won the youngest participant of the competition charming Kseniia Nesterenko (Russia).

December. Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti opened the 9th Minsk International Christmas Opera Forum. The performance featured young soloists of the theatre.

December. The concert of the Russian opera singer took place in the framework of the 9th Minsk International Christmas Opera Forum at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus.

December. For the eighth consecutive year, the ballet company of the Belarusian Bolshoi went on a tour through the big cities and small towns of Austria and Germany with the performances of Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, or Another Christmas Story.

December. The winners of the National Theatre Award have been announced. The best opera production became our La bohème. Alexander Kostiuchenko, the chief set designer of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus, won in the category "The best work of a stage designer in a musical performance" for the design of Tosca. The winner in the category "Best female role in a musical performance" was ballerina Irina Eromkina for the role of Baijan in Love and Death. "Best male role in a musical performance" was awarded to the opera soloist Vladimir Gromov for the role of Marcello in La bohème.

December. 140 various toys were sent to the "Christmas Tree Decoration” family contest. The prizes will be given not only to the winners, but also to all participants.

December. The Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus finishes 2017 with The Nutcracker featuring ballet dancers of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus and students of the Belarusian State Choreographic Gymnasium-College.
