Yuri Gorodetski graduated from the Belarusian State Academy of Music where he had studied under the Honoured Artist of the Republic of Belarus Leonid Ivashkov.
He joined the opera company of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus in September 2006.
In 2006, he was awarded grand prize of the Special Fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus for Support of the Talented Youth, followed by a prize and a certificate of the aforementioned fund in 2008.

Yuri Gorodetski has taken part in masterclasses of the International Academy of Music in Nice. In 2007, he participated in the charity concert “Classics and Jazz” at Kolomenskoye estate in Moscow (with Maria Gulegina and Denis Matsuyev). In 2008-2009, he trained at the Music Institute in Modena, Italy, under Raina Kabaivanska. From 2009-2010, he continued his training at the Opera Studio of the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium under the tutelage of José Van Dam. In June 2010, he sang the baritone role in the world premiere of Igor Khodosko’s oratorio Lamentation held as part of the project “Evenings of Belarusian Opera and Ballet at the Radziwill Castle”. In 2011-12, he sang the roles of Ly-Lam in Baldassare Galuppi’s L'inimico delle donne, Basilio in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, the Steersman in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie.
From 2012-14 he was a member of WNO’s Young Artist Program. During the apprenticeship his roles with the company included Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Edmondo in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut, the Shepherd and the Young Sailor in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde.
He took part in the festival “Three Centuries of Classical Art Songs” in St Petersburg.
In 2013, he gave a recital at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal with piano accompaniment by Tatyana Loysha.
Gorodetski’s other international engagements include Count Errico in Joseph Haydn’s La vera constanza (conductor Jesús Lopez Cobos, 2012) and Jaquino in Ludwig van Beethoven's Fidelio (conductor Paolo Arrivabeni, 2014) with the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège, Belgium, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte (conductor Christopher Moulds, 2012), Ferrando in Così fan tutte (conductor Stefano Montanari, 2014), Kai and the Troll in The Story of Kai and Gerda (conductor Anton Grishanin, 2014) with the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia.
His discography includes the record of songs by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Sergey Rachmaninov with piano accompaniment by Tatyana Loysha (ATMA Classique, 2013).
