PREMIERE OF THE OPERETTA DIE FLEDERMAUS

The calendar of the Belarusian Bolshoi features an operetta that is successfully performed on the leading stages of the world, for example, at the Metropolitan Opera (New York) or Royal Opera House (London). But in Minsk the audience will see completely different story.

Batman will appear on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus! ‘This image simply must be in the new production of Die Fledermaus,’ said the Hungarian director Kero. About 200 unusual costumes will be created for the new production. (The costume design Ágnes Éva Gyarmathy (Hungary) worked in the Oscar-winning movie Mephisto by Istvan Szabo.) Kerenyi is happy to work with such interesting material again. His "bats" fly on various stages of the world. But the Belarusian production promises to be special.

It is interesting that the role of Prince Orlovsky on the Belarusian stage was performed by ... mezzo-soprano (as in the original score). Orlovsky was one of the central figures. And everything that happened on the stage was started with the sole purpose: to entertain the owner of the ball. The scenography of the production is difficult, but very interesting.

Miklós Gabor Kerényi was born in Budapest in 1951. He graduated from the opera singing department and continued his education at the Budapest Film Academy (director of musical theatre). At the Hungarian State Opera House, where Kero worked for 10 years, the director staged classical operas: Der fliegende Holländer, Don Carlos and Macbeth, Faust and others. As the artistic director of the Budapest Operetta and Musical Theatre he staged Die Csárdásfürstin and Gräfin Mariza by Emmerich Kálmán, Das Land des Lächelns by Franz Lehár, Romeo and Juliet by Szilveszter Lévay, Elizabeth by Gérard Presgurvic, Rudolf by Frank Wildhorn and Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss.

His productions performed in Salzburg, St. Petersburg, Prague, Vienna, Tel Aviv, Bucharest, Munich... and now in Minsk!.. Kero himself promises that the audience will see a unique production on the Belarusian stage: ‘We are creating a production that will preserve the traditions of the first operetta of 1874, but also will absorb all the best things that exist today.’ Complex mazes, turntable, unusual visual effects, interesting choreography – everything will work for the implementation of the director's ideas. ‘And yet, music is at the forefront! It is gorgeous!’ Kerenyi stressed.
