PARTNERS OF THE PROJECT
The international festival Ballet Summer at the Bolshoi will take place for the 6th time. On 21 June the marathon of choreographic performances will open premier night with three principals of the Mariinsky Theatre. Honoured Artists of Russia Igor Kolb, Danila Korsuntsev, Yevgeny Ivanchenko will perform in the project “Dance Dance Dance”.
On 23 and 24 June the audience will see Radu Poklitaru’s KYIV MODERN BALLET Theatre. On the first evening (23 June), the leading choreographer of our time will present his view on the tale of The Sleeping Beauty. In his ballet to the Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s music, the princess slept for no less than 800 years. And you can see if the kiss of the young prince wakes her in the 20th century?
‘The plot of the The Case of Benjamin Button attracted me as the basis for the creation of a ballet performance for long ago. The story about the reversed human life throws a lot of challenges to the director and leading artist. These challenges seem insurmountable at first glance, but… What could be more interesting than almost impossible artistic tasks?..’ the choreographer Poklitaru said about his production Up the river (music of Alexander Rodin), which the Belarusian audience can see on June 24. On the same evening, Radu invites the audience to The Long Christmas Dinner – is a ballet-contemplation about the fugacious life to Antonio Vivaldi’s music.
On 25 June premiere of this season Vyacheslav Kuznetsov’s Anastasia staged by Yury Trayan. ‘Creating a national project, we draw attention to our history and situation before us. And this is very important…’ Trayan said. ‘The story of Anastasia Slutskaya is complicated and intricate, but for the theatre stage it is very interesting. But, of course, it is necessary to understand that ballet is not a historical study. We create the choreographic legend and disseminate there the facts that occurred in the fate of the main characters as organically as possible. Yes, Anastasia organized the defense of Slutsk. It is a historical fact. But I'm interested in showing prehistory. I want to show what this woman went through. She could gather an army and lead it. That's what I'm wondering…’
We can’t imagine Ballet Summer at the Bolshoi without this production. On 26 June the legendary Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake will take place. The performance this evening will feature the guest soloists of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Music Theatre Erika Mikirticheva as Odette / Odile and Denis Dmitriev as Prince Siegfried. Aleh Lessoun will conduct.
‘The fabulous plot of Shakespeare's story about Romeo and Juliet is a source of great encouragement! Perhaps it is difficult to imagine better story for ballet. There are so many feelings, so many emotions – from crazy love to fierce hatred... I think that's why this story lives for centuries and is so stable on the stages of the world…’said Valentin Elizariev, who presented a new version of Sergei Prokofiev’s ballet last December. 27 June at the main stage.
The festival will end on 28 June with a gala concert of world ballet stars. The principal ballerina with Staatsballett Berlin Ksenia Ovsyanick, principal dancer with the Mikhailovsky Theatre and many others will appear on the Belarusian stage.
Please, pay attention: performances start at 19:30.
