Kolb’s “Illusions”

Just a few months later, the principal ballet master of the theatre, Honoured Artist of Russia Igor Kolb will present his ballet Illusions of Love to the audience. Workshops are working on the production: sets, costumes, fittings, rehearsals.

The first premiere of the 91st season in the Bolshoi will take place at the very beginning of winter. A team of talented and enthusiastic people, headed by the the principal ballet master of the theatre Igor Kolb, is working on Illusions of Love. It is interesting, that last year Kolb's production of Giselle also became the first in a series of premieres.

We see what we want to see and believe what we want to believe. But are we deceiving ourselves? Is everything illusory? And is it possible to define the boundaries of your own perception, sensation, vision?.. How will Igor Kolb show these emotions on stage? ‘Honestly, I don't know’, Kolb said. ‘But I hope it will work out. I have addressed this topic repeatedly, including in my choreographic pieces. There are no people who would not live by illusions, and it cannot be said that this has an exclusively negative connotation, or an exclusively positive one. We create our own lives, illusions can help us, but they can also aggravate the situation... What is happiness?.. What is love?.. A trace on the water, pollen on the fingers, a feeling that cannot be described, an emotional, seemingly unreal flow… This topic really torments me. I hope it will spill out in the format of a performance in which there will be both a note of sadness and a touch of humor...’.
Love through the eyes of a woman – that what this ballet to the music by Dmitri Shostakovich and Frédéric Chopin is about.

We should add that conductor Nikolai Koliadko is working on the musical material of the production. Liudmila Khitrova, Elizaveta Musorina, Viktoryia Trenkina, Alina Rudenko, Konstantin Belokhvostik, Vladimir Ruda, Dmitrii Uksusnikov, Maryna Vezhnavets, Olga Gaiko, Tatiana Ulasen, Anton Kravchenko and others will perform the leading roles.
