The tragedy Macbeth by William Shakespeare Giuseppe Verdi considered one of the best works of world literature. Perhaps that is why this opera is among the undoubted masterpieces of the Italian composer. Macbeth is perhaps the first Verdi’s work, where such great attention is given to the depths of the human psyche. The composer revealed the darkest aspects of the human subconscious, believing that the music of Macbeth should only ‘emphasize poetry, but not the composer’.
On 28 September the soloist of the National Opera of Ukraine Hennadii Vashchenko will perform the title role in Giuseppe Verdi’s Macbeth. The Honoured Artist of Ukraine will appear on the Belarusian stage for the first time.
Since 2000 (when Hennadii joined the company of the National Opera of Ukraine) his roles include: Schaunard in La bohème and Scarpia in Tosca by Giacomo Puccini, Escamillo in Carmen by Georges Bizet, Renato in Un ballo in maschera by Giuseppe Verdi, title roles in Nabucco and Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi, Eugene Onegin in the eponymous opera by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and etc. Ukrainian baritone performed on the stages of Germany, Denmark, France, Switzerland and USA. Music critics often talk about his ‘irreproachable vocal, beautiful timbre, perfect articulation combined with excellent acting.’ And we can see him at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus on 28 September.
This evening the opera will feature People's Artist of Belarus Nina Sharubina as Lady Macbeth, laureates of international competitions Dmitri Kapilov as Banco and Alexey Mikutel as Macduff. The Honoured Artist of Ukraine Viktor Ploskina will conduct.
The Honoured Artist of Ukraine Viktor Ploskina (musical director), Mikhail Pandzhavidze (director), Nina Lomanovich (chorus master), Alexander Kostiuchenko (designer), Kanstantsin Kuzniatsou and Yuliya Dziatko (choreography) worked on the Belarusian production in Bolshoi. The opera premiered in the spring of 2016.
