What Ball Will Show Us?

On 13 January the New Year’s Ball will take place at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus. The theatre is preparing: hundreds of people come to weekly rehearsals to get closer to the magic of dance and to delight themselves and others on this Ball night. We have already written about these rehearsals, and today we will talk about the entertainment programme of the Ball. Director of the evening Daria Potaturko told us what will surprise the participants this year.

‘The theme of the upcoming Ball is "Cinema".  This is an amazing, special kind of art, and we are with the director Natalia Baranovskaya decided to link it synthetically with the theme of opera and ballet. Special attention was paid to Hollywood films, but we did not forget about the classics: in our programme there was a place for dance and music. And look-alike contest can be very useful to help us approach this theme. It is not surprising that the hosts of the evening will be actors who will appear in the roles of Charlie Chaplin and Anna Pavlova, Isadora Duncan and Sergei Yesenin.’

As our regular visitors remember our sweet zone was very popular last year. This time it will return in an updated format: in front of the audience ice cream in a special "laboratory" will be prepared, and the excited dancers will have the opportunity to cool down, ordering a unique taste of the winter dainty. There will also be a candy-bar: the audience can try a variety of delicious cookies-marshmallows for participation in the quiz.

Another novelty is Christmas radio. We will make a zone where you can record congratulations, which will be announced during the evening. We will entertain the gentlemen: many men dance and it is great. But some of them stand aside, drink champagne and admire their ladies. This year, the theatre agency Goodtime will organize the casino for everyone, who decided to take a break from the dance.

‘The audience needn't worry. There will be no money bets, it is exclusively a game format. There will be roulette, dice, chips. ‘Mafia’ will also take place. This is an obvious nod to The Godfather. The attentive viewer will see the parallel with our Cavalleria Rusticana.’

And of course we will dance. The so-called First Ball is a grand opening. Our guests have been preparing for it since September (choreography by Yulia Dyatko). Then master class will take place. People will be able to learn some elementary steps right at the ball. Then the surprise concert will take place (directed by Galina Galkovskaya) in the main hall, and then we will go to the Second Ball. Do not forget about the programme in the Chamber Hall (directed by Natalia Kuzmenkova). It is really impressive!
