Ah, This Les Noces!

In September 2018, the leading soloists of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus performed at the largest venues in France. Masterpieces of Russian music Rachmaninoff Aleko and Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta opened seasons in the theatres of Rennes, Angers and Nantes.

It is pleasant that the cooperation between the theaters of France and the Bolshoi Theatre continues. This spring, 12 chorus artists and soloists of the Belarusian opera were invited to Angers, Rennes and Nantes to take part in seven unique performances of Igor Stravinsky's Les Noces. The peculiarity of these productions is that the audience will see two choreographic versions of the same musical masterpiece (by Angelin Preljocaj and Aurélien Richard) in one evening. Preljocaj rehearses his version of Les Noces (with the participation of students of the National Center of Contemporary Dance in Angers) and the choreographer and pianist Aurelien Richard simultaneously creates his own version of Stravinsky’s work. Angelen Preljocaj is one of the most popular and highly awarded choreographers in the world. His Les Noces to the Igor Stravinsky’s music (staged in 1989) is a completely new look at the legendary ballet. And 31 years later such an unusual idea to show two views of one Stravinsky’s work, as if in a mirror image, was born. Irina Kuchinskaya (soprano), Natalia Akinina (mezzo-soprano), Viktor Mendelev (tenor), Andrei Seliutsin (bass) and 12 chorus artists of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus will perform in this project. The dates of the shows are already known: on 24 and 25 March they will perform at the Le Quai theatre in Angers, on 27 and 28 March-at the Opéra de Rennes, on 9, 10 and 11 April-at the Nantes Le Grand T.

On March 16 Belarusian artists will go to France to start rehearsals. Our soloists and chorus artists will join the chorus of the Angers-Nantes Opera and musicians of the Rennes and Tours Higher Art Education Centers. The young French conductor Rémi Durupt will conduct.
