It's back!

Pyotr Tchaikovsky's fairy-tale ballet staged by conductor Alexander Anissimov, choreographer Valentin Elizariev, and set designer Eugene Lysik appeared on the stage of the Bolshoi theatre of Belarus in 1982. The last time this production was sperformed seven years ago, on 16 January 2013. And now in October 2020 the ballet returned – in the new master’s version. (The musical director of the 2020 version was Vyacheslav Chernukho-Volich.)

Elizariev has repeatedly admitted that he worked on this ballet with abandon, he saw the first act of the production... in a dream. (And most importantly, he managed to write down the choreographic structure.) And the audience always followed the brilliant choreographer with the same enthusiasm, trusting him completely, plunging into this fairy tale, into the fantastic Lysik’s worlds, into the incredible beauty of Tchaikovsky's music. It should be reminded that in the Elizariev’s ballet at one time shone: Lyudmila Brzhozovskaya, Yury Trayan, Tatyana Ershova, Alexander Martynov, Inessa Dushkevich, Natella Dadishkiliani, Ekaterina Fadeeva, Igor Artamonov, Lyudmila Kudryavtseva, Olga Gaiko, Irina Eromkina, Anton Kravchenko, Veniamin Zakharov, Yury Kavaliou and many others.

On the evening of 13 October, the audience did not let the artists go. The performance featured Irina Eromkina as Masha, Oleg Eromkin as the Nutcracker –Prince, Yury Kavaliou as Drosselmeyer (the Doll Master), the Mouse King, Karina Malakhovskaya as the Nutcracker, Tatiana Dubatovka as the Mouse, Ksenia Rzhevskaya as the Princess, Yana Shtangei and Egor Azarkevich (Spanish dolls), Tatsiana Ulasen and Ihar Matskevich (Persian dolls), Ksenia Rzhevskaya and Takatoshi Machiyama (Japanese dolls), Aleksandra Chizhik and Anton Kravchenko (Russian dolls), Darya Miadouskaya and Artem Bankovsky (French dolls).

The audience was delighted by Valentin Elizariev, who came out to bow in the top hat of Drosselmeyer. He is the Wizard who returned this fairy tale to the Belarusian stage. We sincerely congratulate the entire production team, the artists and, of course, the audience!

The next performance of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker in new Elizariev’s version is on 23 October.
