ULADZIMIR KARATKEVICH AND HIS HUNT

This is not the first joint project of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus and the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature. This time, on 11 July, before the premiere of the opera King Stakh’s Wild Hunt, at 17:30, the opening of the exhibition “Uladzimir Karatkevich and His Hunting Story” will take place.

In the foyer of the stalls, Olga Guleva, head of the scientific exposition department of the museum, will tell visitors about the short novel by Karatkevich and about the story of its printing: from the first edition to the last – the jubilee one.

The exhibition will feature the magazine Youth (Maladosts) of 1964, in which for the first time the lovers of Uladzimir Karatkevich's works could read one of the most popular pieces of the writer – his Hunt.... It will also present a chic edition of the novel, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the writer (in four languages: Belarusian, Russian, Ukrainian and English), with interesting illustrations by Yuri Yakovenko.

The short novel has been translated into different languages of the world. The exhibition will also feature editions in German, Czech and Lithuanian.

Of course, the exhibition will display a rich collection of photographs of Uladzimir Karatkevich, reflecting the time when King Stakh’s Wild Hunt was written and when the writer gained national fame.

The exhibition will be complemented by a portrait of Uladzimir Karatkevich, which was painted by Mikhail Budovey in 1982.

The exposition will be open also on the second premiere day, 12 July.
