Opening of the Opera Season

Congratulations to the theatre and audience on the fact that Gaetano Donizetti’s comic opera L'elisir d'amore appeared in the calendar of the Bolshoi!

The brilliant comic L'elisir d'amore by Gaetano Donizetti (the production turned 190 years in May) is an interesting, light, entertaining plot and wonderful music.

The Italian composer was only thirty-four when he wrote this comic opera. One of Donizetti's letters tells us how fast he worked. Addressing his librettist, he wrote: ‘I have to write an opera in two weeks. I'm giving you a week for your work. But keep in mind: we have a German prima donna, a tenor who stutters, a buffo with a voice like a goat, and a lousy French bass. With all this, you can become famous.’ And really, both of them became famous.

This opera was staged at the Belarusian Bolshoi only once, in 1965. 57 years later, the principal stage director of the theatere, Anna Motornaya, together with the conductor Aleh Lessoun, designers Andrei Merenkov (sets), Lyubov Sidelnikova (costumes), Evgenii Lisitsyn (light), chorusmaster Nina Lomanovich and choreographer Sergey Mikel, prepare a new "... Elisir" for the audience.

On 8 and 9 September the leading roles will feature Tatyana Gavrilova and Irina Kuchinskaya as Adina, Yuri Gorodetski and Alexander Mikhniuk as Nemorino, Andrey Klipo and Dzianis Yantsevich as Belcore, Dmitry Kapilov and  Andrey Selutin as Dulcamara. The chorus artits, supernumeraries and students of the Children's Music Studio also performed their roles perfectly.
