Maestro Keitel. Again in Minsk

On 11 March, a masterpiece of the outstanding German composer Richard Wagner, rightfully included in the "golden fund" of the leading opera houses, Der fliegende Holländer will be performed on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre.

In a moment of deep despair the captain of a Dutch ship godlessly swore that despite the storm and the wind he would pass by the dangerous Cape of Good Hope, even if he had to sell his own soul for it. And now... the immortal captain of the ship is condemned to everlasting wandering, dreaming of death. Once in seven years he goes ashore in search for a maid whose love will redeem him from the curse. Will he find salvation?...We will find out on 11 March.

This evening will feature wonderful artists: Stanislav Trifonov as the Dutchman, the People's Artist of Belarus Anastasia Moskvina as Senta, Victor Mendelev as Erik, Alexander Gelakh as Steersman, Dmitry Kapilov as Daland, Ekaterina Mikhnovets as Mary.

On 11 March, maestro from Germany, Wilhelm Keitel, who has long been beloved by Belarusian audience, will conduct Der fliegende Holländer. Pianist, conductor, impresario Wilhelm Keitel is widely known among European admirers of classical music. Since 1986 he has conducted at the theatres in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, the Czech Republic, Hungary and has organized opera festivals in Europe. In 1989 he was the artistic director of the festival Rossini in Wildbad. Wilhelm Kaitel cooperated with the famous composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein in the traditional summer concerts of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Tanglewood (USA) and worked with the legendary Christoph Eschenbach and Gustav Kuhn. In 2007-2008 he was the artistic director of the Monschau Festival.

Maestro Keitel has long-standing artistic ties with Minsk. In 1994 he founded the Minsk Orchestra ensemble and toured with around it the cities of Austria and Germany for several years. Since 2011 the German conductor has been actively cooperating with the Symphony Orchestra of the Belteleradiocompany.

Wilhelm Keitel is a good friend of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus. Tours of the Belarusian Bolshoi and Wilhelm Keitel to Germany, Austria and Tunisia had great resonance. During such tours Verdi’s Nabucco, Aida, La Traviata, Bizet’s Carmen, Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Puccini's Turandot and Madama Butterfly, Orff’s Carmina Burana were performed. Belarusian musicians under the direction of Maestro Keitel appeared on the largest venues of Helsinki, Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, Leipzig, Vienna, Frankfurt, Zurich.

In the autumn of 2022 and in January of this year, Keitel conducted the programme "Hollywood Music. John Williams", which was sold out at the Bolshoi Theatre.
