On 2 April, the Day of the Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus, the Vocal and choreographic performance Pathétique Memory Book will be performed on the new stage of the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia.

The project was implemented at the expense of the Presidential Fund of the Republic of Belarus for the Support of Culture and Art. The premier took place in September 2024.

Pathétique Memory Book is a large-scale theatrical project that combines the features of opera, ballet, plastic drama and a multimedia light show. The performance is based on documentary evidence of the tragedy and heroism of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War, that were found in the archival collections of museums of the Republic of Belarus. These unique photos and videos will be shown during the performance and will allow the audience to experience the depth and drama of the production.

The director of the production, Anna Motornaya, notes: ‘There is hardly a single family in Belarus, Russia and the entire post-Soviet space, unaffected by the Great Patriotic War…And the further its characters, participants and witnesses go, the more obvious the thought that we have no right to forget is. That's why we had the idea to turn documentary evidence into a work that could reach the younger generation through expressive theatrical means, get their attention, and perhaps even change the worldview of a modern person.’

The production team of the Pathétique Memory Book include: the People’s Artist of the Republic of Bashkortostan Artem Makarov (musical director), recipient of the Francysk Skaryna Medal Anna Motornaya (concept and libretto, director), the Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation Igor Kolb (choreography and staging), the People’s Artist of Belarus, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus Nina Lomanovich (chorus master), Lyubov Sidelnikova (designer).

The performance features leading opera and ballet artists, as well as ballet, chorus, orchestra, supernumeraries, Children's Musical Theatre Studio and ballet school students.

The event is organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus and the Standing Committee of the Union State with the participation of ROSCONCERT.
