On 28 November, the long-awaited premiere of Pyotr Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, choreographed by the theatre's director of ballet, Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation Igor Kolb, will take place at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus. This event will open a new page in the history of the 93rd season: this is the first premiere of the new theatre year.
The world of The Nutcracker will come to life on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus thanks to a team of talented creators: choreographer, ballet master, author of the libretto Igor Kolb; musical director Artem Makarov (artistic director of the theatre, People's Artist of the Republic of Bashkortostan); designer Olga Melnik-Malakhova; lighting designer Irina Vtornikova (Honoured Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation); computer graphics and video designer Viktoria Zlotnikova.
The Nutcracker will be revised anew – thanks to the bold and captivating choreography by Igor Kolb. Let us remind you that this will be his fourth major ballet production as a stager and the third creation in this genre with the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus. His first production was Adolphe Adam’s mystical drama Giselle, followed by Illusions of Love to the music of Dmitri Shostakovich, Frédéric Chopin, Lenid Shirin, and the Evening of one-act ballets "Danses" (Maurice Ravel's Boléro, Danse macabre to the music by Camille Saint-Saëns, Carmen to the music of Georges Bizet).
Very soon, on 28 November, a fresh choreographic rendition of one of our most cherished fairy tales will premiere – a tale of Christmas, a magical time when miracles occur, the brave young girl Marie, the enchanted prince, the nut Krakatuk, the Mouse King, and, of course, true love.
The leading ballet soloists, including Liudmila Khitrova, Alina Rudenko, Diana Bagatova, Yelyzaveta Musoryna, Nadzeya Filipava, Aleksandra Chizhik, Olga Gaiko, Tatsiana Ulasen, Konstantin Belokhvostik, Andrei Bariev, Yuri Kovalev, Anton Kravchenko, Denis Shpak, Ivan Kamyshov, Vladislav Koliada, Dmitrii Uksusnikov, Alexander Misiyuk, and Vladimir Ruda will take centre stage.
