Ivan Kostyakhin


Ivan Kostyakhin graduated from the Republican Lyceum (College) of the Belarusian State Academy of Music with honours (class of associate Professor Larisa Shimanovich, People’s Artist of the USSR Professor Viktor Rovdo and People’s Artist of Russia Professor Gennady Provаtorov).

In the year of 2000, he became the mastermind and founder of the student chamber orchestra ‘Sonante.’ As its unchallenged leader and conductor, he performed dozens of concerts in Belarus and abroad (Germany, Munich) during the period from 2000 to 2003.

From 2002 to 2005 he was the principal conductor of Minsk State Wind Orchestra ‘Nemiga’. Ivan Kostyakhin conducted dozens of programmes, mostly of classical movement, experimenting with arrangements for the orchestra of complex polyphonic compositions of sacred music from Bach to Krzysztof Penderecki. He was the first one to perform several works of Belarusian composers. In 2002, Minsk State Wind Orchestra ‘Nemiga’ became the winner of the Yaroslavl Fanfares Festival (Yaroslavl, Russia).

From 2001 to the present time, he has collaborated with various orchestras: State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Belarus, State Chamber Orchestra of Belarus, Symphony Orchestra of the National State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company of the Republic of Belarus, a symphony orchestra ‘Minsk Orchestra,’ Symphony Orchestra of the Belarusian State Academy of Music ‘Young Belarus’, the Academic Symphony Orchestra of Ulyanovsk Philharmonic society.

Since 2003 to the present time, he is a conductor at the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus.


Ivan Kostyakhin is the conductor and musical director of Mozart and Salieri and Kashchey the Immortal by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, one-act ballet Sonnets and a series of performances for children.

He is also a conductor and the author of the arrangements for chamber performance of Donizetti's opera Rita, or the Pirate triangle (the performance is accompanied by the instrumental octet).

He has participated as a conductor in the productions of the operas Carmen by Georges Bizet, Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni, Il Trovatore and Aida by Giuseppe Verdi. Another's wealth serves nobody by J. Holand, ballets La Bayadère and Paquita by Ludwig Minkus, the Fountain of Bakhchisarai by Boris Asafyev, Cinderella by Sergey Prokofiev, La Sylphide by Herman Løvenskiold, Anyuta by Valery Gavrilin. In addition to these performances, the maestro’s repertoire comprises the ballets The Nutcracker by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Le Corsaire by Adolphe Adam, Till Eulenspiegel by Evgeny Glebov, opera King Stach’s Wild Hunting by Vladimir Soltan, The Magic Flute and The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart, La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi, etc.

Ivan Kostyakhin takes an active part in the creation of concert programmes of the Bolshoi of Belarus. Since 2003, he has been the conductor of the theatre stage band. Since 2005, he has been teaching at the Department of Opera Training at the Belarusian State Academy of Music, he is also a musical director and conductor of the opera studio performances, such as L'elisir d'amore by Gaetano Donizetti, Carmen by Georges Bizet, The Queen of Spades Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Don Giovanni by Mozart, Dido and Aeneas Henry Purcell, a farce Fantasy by Vladimir Kuryan. In 2013, he staged two one-act operas Der Schauspieldirektor by Mozart, Prima la musica e poi le parole by Antonio Salieri.
