Aleksey Makshantsev was born in Barnaul, Russia.

In 2016, he graduated from the Gnessins Music College in Moscow with a degree in choral conducting.

In 2020, he graduated with honours from the Viktor Popov Academy of Choral Art  where he had majored in musical and theatre arts under Professor Svetlana Nesterenko. In 2022, he completed the Academy's programme of postgraduate studies (assistantship) under the supervision of Professor Dmitry Vdovin.

Since 2017, he has appeared in concert at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall (Moscow) and the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory.

In 2019, he made his debut with the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia as the Nihilist in Dmitry Shostakovich’s Katerina Izmailova.

In 2022, he completed a course at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre (class of Alexey Tikhomirov).

In 2022, he sang the premiere of Georges Bizet’s Carmen at the first edition of the Sochi Classical Music Festival.

In 2022, he took part in the Opera Class, a project of the Elena Obraztsova Foundation and Dmitry Korchak.

In 2023, he made his debut with the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus as Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia.

Aleksey Makshantsev joined the opera company of the Bolshoi Opera of Belarus in August 2023.

He has performed tenor parts, such as Liverotto in Lucrezia Borgia by Gaetano Donizetti and Goro in Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, as well as baritone roles, including Papageno in Die Zauberflöte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, baritone part in Carmina Burana by Carl Orff at the Moscow Regional Philharmonic Hall, Dancaïre in Georges Bizet’s Carmen at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre, the title role in Don Giovanni and Figaro in The Marriage of Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at the Moscow International House of Music.

He has collaborated with numerous outstanding conductors, including Tugan Sokhiev, Daniel Oren, Miltos Logiadis, Daniele Squeo, Ilya Vasheruk, Victor Lutsenko, etc.
