The festival will open with the premiere of Polad Bülbüloğlu’s Love and Death choreographed and staged by Olga Kostel. According to the choreographer, old Turkic mythology, which the story is based on, is the fount of human moral values, rules and traditions. The authors will present the existential view of man and nature, man and the elements. The premiere will be conducted by Ayyub Guliyev from Azerbaijan.
On 14 June the audience will be able to see again Le Petit Prince by Eugene Glebov. The music was composed almost 35 years ago; the ballet has been staged at the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, in Helsinki, Samara, and Nizhny Novgorod. It premiered in Minsk last autumn. The ballet choreographed by Aleksandra Tikhomirova is a philosophical parable based on the allegorical story by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry which gives answers to eternal questions about the sense of life, the essence of love, the value of friendship. The leading roles will be danced by principals of the Belarusian ballet company.
On 15 June the role of Odette/Odile in Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake will be danced by the Honoured Artist of Russia, principal of the Mikhailovsky Theatre Ekaterina Borchenko. The role is among the dancer’s crowning ones.
On 16 June the theatre will give an evening comprising two pieces by the cult contemporary choreographer Jiří Kylián and a choreographic scene from Ludwig Minkus’ La Bayadère. Sechs Tänze premiered three years ago. This season the theatre has presented the premiere of another Kylián’s work from the black and white cycle, Petite Mort, to the music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
On 17 June the Ballet Summer will close with the gala concert of world ballet stars featuring dancers from different countries. The audience will enjoy the Minsk debut of the leading soloists of the English National Ballet, Ksenia Ovsyanick and James Forbat. Another dancing couple will come from Kazakhstan: Gaukhar Usina and Zhanibek Imankulov who dance for the Astana Opera. The gala concert will also star the prima ballerina of the Azerbaijani State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre; the Belarusian audience remember well her performance at the festival last year. The soloists of the Staatsballett Berlin, Vladislav Marinov, a graduate of the Bulgarian High School of Arts and Music, and Lucio Vidal, a graduate of the Contemporary Dance School in Buenos Aires, confirmed their participation, too. Of course, the spectators will also enjoy the performances of the stars of Belarusian ballet.
