On 28 September Georgy Karant and Viktor Skorobogatov assemble leading opera singers again to recollect the best and most popular parts from the repertoire of the People’s Artist of Belarus Valery Glushakov. This year he would have turned 90.
‘Valery had a wonderful vocal school: he studied under the eminent tenor Eugene Viting who appeared opposite Feodor Chaliapin!’ the artistic director of the concert, Honoured Artist of the Republic of Belarus Georgy Karant exclaims. ‘Viting gave our theatre a constellation of brilliant singers, such as Nikolai Vorvulev, Tamara Shimko, Raisa Osipenko, Polina and Mikhail Druzhina, and, of course, Valery Glushakov. Those artists never had problems with the opera singing technique!
The programme will comprise the parts in which Valery Glushakov, a lyrical tenor, was absolutely magnificent. The complicated role of the Duke from Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto will be performed by the People’s Artist of Belarus Sergey Frankovsky, and the song ‘The Heart of the Pretty Girl…’ will be sung by three young tenors at a time, namely Alexander Gelakh, Alexander Mikhniuk and Viktor Mendelev. Tatyana Tretyak will appear as Violetta opposite Aleksey Mikutel singing the role of Alfredo from La traviata by Verdi. The duet of Vladimir and Konchakovna from Alexander Borodin’s Prince Igor will be performed by the People’s Artist of the Republic of Belarus Oksana Yakushevich and Aleksey Mikutel. The People’s Artist of Belarus Nina Sharubina and Alexander Mikhniuk have chosen arias from La Gioconda by Amilcare Ponchielli. ’
