On 8 October the title role in Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida will be performed by the prima donna of the Kazakh Theatre “Astana Opera” Zhupar Gabdullina.
Zhupar Gabdullina graduated from the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory where she had majored in solo singing (class of Associate Professor R. Smailova). From 2007 to 2013, she was a soloist at the Abai Kazakh State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. Since 2013, she has been a leading soloist of the Kazakh State Opera and Ballet Theatre “Astana Opera”.
Zhupar Gabdullina is a winner of numerous republican and international competitions, laureate of the Daryn State Youth Prize, recipient of a scholarship and laureate of the Fund of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - the Leader of the Nation. Her repertoire includes the roles of Leonora in Il trovatore, Odabella in Attila, Amelia in Un ballo in machera by Giuseppe Verdi; the title role in Turandot by Giacomo Puccini; Nedda in Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo; Lisa in The Queen of Spades by Pyotr Tchaikovsky; Sara, Altynai in Birzhan-Sara by Mukan Tulebayev; Azhar in Abai by Akhmet Zhubanov; Dana in Yer Targyn by Eugene Brusilovsky, etc.
She took part in masterclasses by leading teachers of the Accademia Teatro alla Scala where she had worked on the title role of Verdi’s Aida. Her highlights include the role of Aida in a performance of the eponymous production by the noted director and designer Franco Zeffirelli (Teatro alla Scala, Italy), at the International Opera Festival marking the bicentenary of Giuseppe Verdi’s birth, and at other opera venues.
The 8 October performance will also feature the Honoured Artist of the Republic of Belarus Oksana Volkova as Amneris, People’s Artist of Belarus Sergey Frankovsky as Radames, Honoured Artist of the Republic of Belarus Oleg Melnikov as Ramfis, People’s Artist of Belarus Vladimir Petrov as Amonasro. The performance will be conducted by the recipient of the Francysk Skaryna Medal Vyacheslav Volich.
