From 14 to 20 December, the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus welcomes bright premieres, the best performances of the repertoire and introduces new names. The highlight of the December calendar – The Minsk International Christmas Opera Forum - gathers friends.


The Forum programme includes world opera classics, the premieres of the season and introduces new stars of the operatic firmament. For seven consecutive years, the Opera Forum of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus has been bringing together the true lovers of classical art.

The Minsk International Christmas Opera Forum opens on 14 December with the legendary Spanish  passionate drama, the opera Carmen by Georges Bizet with Francesco Pio Galasso as Jose (Italy).
A student of Montserrat Caballé, the rising opera star Francesco Pio Galasso is well known and is in great demand in the world of opera. Opera art experts claim him to be destined for the King of the High C’s, a title once earned by Luciano Pavarotti. This young Italian tenor captivates the audience with beautiful voice timbre and a rare ease of performance. On 14 December, the opera will be conducted by Maestro Daniel Montané (Spain). Maestro Montané is already known to the Belarusian audience: he has already been at the conductor's stand with Carmen by Georges Bizet in May of this year; under his baton the performances of the finalists of the competition Competizione dell'Opera in 2012 and the Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition in 2015 were accomplished. The leading parts of Georges Bizet’s masterpiece will be sung by Oksana Volkova (Carmen), Anastasia Moskvina (Micaëla), and Vladimir Gromov (Escamillo).




On 15 December, the creators of the production of Macbeth by Giuseppe Verdi invite the audience to plunge into the dark atmosphere of palace conspiracy and intrigue accompanied by the stirring music of Maestro Verdi. The part of Banquo, the ally and the closest friend of the bloody king Macbeth, is performed by the soloist of the Young Artists Opera Program of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia Goderdzi Janelidze (Georgia).

A graduate of the vocal faculty of the Vano Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatory, Goderdzi Janelidze started his performing career while still a student, singing the leading roles in such operas as Die Zauberflöte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi, Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Gioacchino Rossini, etc. He participated in master classes of Renato Bruson and Brigitte Fassbaender. From 2015, Goderdzi Janelidze has been in the Young Artists Opera Program of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia. The repertoire of the singer at the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia includes The Story of Kai and Gerda by Sergey Banevich, Katerina Ismailova by Dmitry Shostakovich, The Stone Guest by Alexander Dargomyzhsky, Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti. The conductor of the opera Macbeth is Viktor Ploskina. The leading parts will be performed by Stanislav Trifonov (Macbeth), Nina Sharubina (Lady Macbeth), Viktor Mendelev (Macduff), Alexander Mikhniuk (Malcolm).




On 17 December the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus will host the opera company of the Odessa National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet. It will present to the Belarusian audience the mystifying The Queen of Spades by Peter Tchaikovsky staged by People's Artist of Moldova Alexandru Samoila (music director), People's Artist of Russia Alexander Titel (director), Honored Artist of Russia Stanislav Morozov (art director). The Queen of Spades premiered on the stage of the Odessa Opera Theater in 2013, and ever since has remained the most popular performance in the repertoire.

On 17 December, The Queen of Spades by Peter Tchaikovski will be performed on the Belarusian stage under the baton of Maestro Alexandru Samoila. The cast will be lead by Eduard Martyniuk (Herman) and soloists of the opera of the Odessa National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet.


On 18 December, the audience of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus will see the premiere of the current theatrical season, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. The leading male cast: Figaro – Herman Ukawski (Russia), Count Almaviva - Sergey Moskalkov (Russia). A soloist of the Boris Pokrovski Moscow Chamber Music Theatre, Herman Ukawski is a graduate of The Gnessins State Musical College (1994) and the Lunacharsky State Institute for Theatre Arts (GITIS) (1996). Since 1994 he has worked at the Chamber Music Theater touring frequently with solo concerts in Russia and abroad. In 2010, he was nominated for The Golden Mask National Theatre Award (Russia) for the role of Khludov in the opera The Flight by Nicolay Sidelnikov. Artistic Director and the soloist of the theatre ‘Russian Opera,’ Sergey Moskalkov is familiar to the Belarusian public for his impersonation of Tonio in the premiere performance of Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus (2014).

The leading parts in the opera The Marriage of Figaro will be performed by Anastasia Moskvina (Countess), Irina Kuchinskaya (Suzanne), Dmitry Kapilov (Bartolo), Yanosh Nelepa (Basilio), Natalia Akinina (Marcellina), Catherine Mihnovets (Cherubino), Aleksandr Keda (Antonio). The conductor is Oleg Lesun.


On 19 December, the ruthless and beautiful Princess of Giacomo Puccini will reign on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus. Three deadly riddles of the grim princess Turandot are to be solved by Prince Calaf impersonated by the Honoured Artist of Russia Akhmed Agadi. Akhmed Agadi makes frequent and very successful appearances at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus: in December 2013, he performed the role of Calaf in Turandot during the Minsk International Christmas Opera Forum, and in 2014, he sang the part of Radames in Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida and Cavaradossi in Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca joining the roster of Belarusian audience’s favourite artists.
The conductor is Viktor Ploskina. Leading roles: Ekaterina Golovleva (Turandot), Andrey Valentiy (Timur), Tatiana Gavrilova (Liù), Vladimir Gromov (Ping), Yanosh Nelepa (Pong), Andrey Zhukov (Pang).


The Minsk International Christmas Opera Forum 2016 will culminate in a grand Gala concert that will give opera admirers the chance to encounter celebrated world opera stars including Helen Lepalaan (Estonia), Arevik Gyulbudaghyan (Russia), Talgat Mussabayev (Kazakhstan), Fidan Hajiyeva (Azerbaijan), Anton Zaraev (Russia), Romāns Polisadovs (Latvia), Daniel Damyanov (Bulgaria), Jean-Philippe Fortier-Lazure (Canada), Kirill Borchaninov (Uzbekistan), František Zahradníček  (Czech Republic), Francesca Sorteni (France-Italy), Anna Lubańska (Poland), Akhmed Agadi (Russia), Dainius Stumbras (Lithuania), Yuliya Lysenko (Ukraine), Martin Babjak (Slovakia). Great Opera arias and duets, musical hits and familiar melodies, performed and accompanied by virtuoso musicians of the Symphony Orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus will create the inimitable atmosphere of the Christmas Opera Fête. The conductor is Andrey Galanov.
