Romantic duet from Kazakhstan

On 29 May on the stage of the Belarusian Bolshoi the ballet The Fountain of Bakhchisarai by Boris Asafiev will feature a brilliant duo from Kazakhstan: the part of the noble and brave Vaslav will be performed by the soloists of the State Opera and Ballet Theatre "Astana Opera", the laureate of numerous international competitions, the winner of the Marius Petipa special prize  Yerkin Rakhmatullaev, and in the part of his beloved Maria will be performed by the winner of an international competition, the soloist of "Astana Opera" Nazerke Aimukhametova.

The talented graduate of the Seleznev Almaty Choreographic School was invited in 2012-2013  to  a private troupe of Konstantin Tachkin, and in 2013 Yerkin Rakhmatullaev joined the ballet company of the State Theatre "Astana Opera" as principal dancer.

The repertoire of Yerkin Rakhmatullaev includes such principal roles as Prince Siegfried in the famous Tchaikovsky ballet Swan Lake, Albert in Giselle by Adolphe Adam, Solor in the ballet La Bayadere by Ludwig Minkus, Romeo and Paris in the ballet Romeo and Juliette by Sergey Prokofiev, Désiré in The Sleeping Beauty by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, and, of course, Vaslav in the ballet The Fountain of Bakhchisarai by Boris Asafiev. The dancer consistently captivates the audience with his exceptional virtuosity and high professionalism with critics admiringly calling him the "ballet Prince". In an interview, Yerkin modestly said, ‘The roles of princes are very much alike in their nature, but each of them has its own emotional style.’

The creative achievements of the artist include multiple victories at prestigious international competitions: while still a student Yerkin Rakhmatullaev won the 2nd Prize at the Orleu International Ballet Competition (2008). In 2014, the principal of the State Theatre "Astana Opera" won three top awards: Grand Prix at the International Festival of Creative Youth "Shabyt" in Astana, 3rd  Prize at the International Ballet Competition "Grand Prix of Siberia" in Krasnoyarsk and 3rd  prize of the 5th International Ballet Competition in Beijing. In 2016, Yerkin Rakhmatullaev took part in the 14th Maximova Open Russian Ballet Competition "Arabesque-2016."  ‘In the classic variations I could focus on the artistry of dance and the emotional flow of the role rather than worry about the technique,’  says Yerkin Rakhmatullaev in an interview, ‘Many artists from different countries told me that I was a worthy opponent, noticing  the beauty of my dance, high professional level, good school, and academism.’ The dancer was noted with the Marius Petipa special prize "For purity and academism of classical dancing", and received numerous engagements from the theatres of the world.

The part of the beautiful Maria will be performed by a young, talented and incredibly artistic dancer Nazerke Aimukhametova. She is a graduate of the Seleznev Almaty Choreographic School. During her studies, she joined the Abay State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre company as a trainee dancer. In 2014, Nazerke Aimukhametova became a regular dancer of the company, and in 2016 – the soloist of the State Opera and Ballet Theatre "Astana Opera".

The repertoire of Nazerke Aimukhametova is comprised of such roles as Maria in the ballet The Fountain of Bakhchisarai by Boris Asafiev, Pas de deux in the ballet Harlequinade by Riccardo Drigo, variation trio in the ballet La Bayadere by Ludwig Minkus. In the ballets by Pyotr Tchaikovsky she dances Columbine from the Nutcracker, Bride and foursome in Swan Lake, and Four ladies from The Sleeping Beauty.

Nazerke Aimukhametova is the winner of the 3rd Prize at the Orleu International Ballet Competition (2010, Almaty, Kazakhstan), the winner of the Akku International competition (2007, Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek). At the 3rd International Ballet Competition in Astana the talented Nazerke Aimukhametova was highly praised by the jury for her bright and artistic rendition of one of the hallmarks of the young dancer Pas de deux from the ballet Harlequinade by Riccardo Drigo, choreography by Marius Petipa. According to Nazerke, ‘Ballet is a sort of art where you need an outside perspective. The professional reviews and comments help to crystallize the part, to bring it to a flawless level of execution.’
