NEW STAMP WITH THE IMAGE OF THE BOLSHOI THEATRE OF BELARUS

On November 15 at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus the ceremony of the commemorative stamp cancellation took place. Their release was dedicated to 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Uruguay.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Evgeny Shestakov; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay to the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus non-resident, Enrique Delgado Gente; Deputy Minister of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus Anna Ryabova and General Director of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus participated in the ceremony Vladimir Gridyushko.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Eastern Republic of Uruguay were established on 7 July 1992 and throughout these years there has been a positive dynamic in political, trade, economic and other spheres.

And the confirmation of this is the release of the state postage stamp of the two countries: the Eastern Republic of Uruguay (issuance on 9 September 2017) and the Republic of Belarus (issuance on 15 November 2017).

Art stamps are not only the payment method for postal services, but also an opportunity to show the spiritual and cultural heritage of the people.

That is why the theatres of the two countries became the artistic basis of post miniatures. It is the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus and Teatro Solís in Montevideo, which is the oldest theatre of Uruguay and throughout the Western hemisphere. The Belarusian post project, consisting of two art stamps, first day cover and special commemorative stamp, was prepared by the Republican Unitary Enterprise “Belpochta” and Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus in close cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus.

Stamp’s circulation is 70 thousand items. The products are made in vintage sheets with artistically decorated fields; also modern post-printing technology is applied: thermal stamping with a matte gold foil.

Previously the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus has already twice been presented on post products: in 2000, the post project "Belarusian Ballet", consisting of a block, an art stamp, first day cover and special commemorative stamp, was put into circulation; and in 2013 in the series "Theaters of Belarus" the post stamp "National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus" was introduced.

For reference. The Italian architect Carlo Zucchi was the main architect of the Teatro Solís and Francisco Germendia also participated in the designing. The building is decorated in the spirit of classicism. Officially, the Teatro Solís opened its doors to visitors on 25 August 1856. On that day, Ernani by Giuseppe Verdi was presented, and it is in the repertoire of the theatre to this very day.

The best performers of the 19th and 20th centuries appeared at the Teatro Solís. Among them: the dancer Anna Pavlova and singers Enrico Caruso, Montserrat Caballe and others.
