BALLET. WINTER. TOUR

For the seventh consecutive year, the ballet company of the Belarusian Bolshoi is going to conquer the big cities and small towns of Austria and Germany. From 18 December to 22 January, our artists will give a real holiday to European audience at this wonderful Christmas and New Year time.

The choreographer of the Belarusian Bolshoi, the recipient of the Francysk Skaryna Medal Aleksandra Tikhomirova:

‘Considerable effort had been devoted both from the Bolshoi Theatre and German impresario Victor Sheller and his wife Natalia Lutoshkina in order to make Europe aware of the Belarusian ballet. Because we need not only to open the brand named "The Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus ballet" to the European audience but also to defend it. On this tour we represent not only our theater, we represent the country, and our theatrical victories are the victories of the republic as a whole. Belarusian ballet not so often appeared on the European stages before the cooperation with Sheller. The company more often delighted the audience in Asia. And when the German impresario became our partner, other European theatrical agents wanted to work with Bolshoi, because the world of these professionals is quite narrow and information spreads quickly. If the tour is successful (and our performances are held exactly this way), of course, there are people who are ready to share it. And I think that the fact that we are going on a concert tour throughout the cities of Austria and Germany for the seventh time is very important phenomenon and moreover – unique.

I am doubly pleased that success of the Belarusian ballet is associated with the names of my good friends. Natalia Lutoshkina started her career in St. Petersburg after graduating from the choreographic school in Novosibirsk. She was in the Nikita Dolgushin’s company, where I was the ballet master and répétiteur. It just so happened that I helped her with her first solo of Myrtha in "Giselle". I’m so happy that our creative cooperation grew into a friendship that has lasted for more than 17 years. Victor Sheller I have met even earlier, in the mid-1990s. At that time he had worked closely with Nikita Dolgushin’s company for quite a long time. Perhaps the most important thing in our human relationships, as well as in professional relationships, is the preservation of the authenticity and openness, where nothing is superficial. I hope that our friendship and business alliance will continue to work in the future.

Of course, tour activity is not a holiday. Relocation, road, stress, responsibility, different stages, long separation from loved ones... Yes, it is work, but it is always associated with some pleasure. It is a journey, excursions, stroll through new cities, unusual purchases. We make sense of the world, touch another space and this is always interesting. However the thing, that during New Year holidays you can communicate with your loved once only via Skype, can bring slight sadness in this overall positive mood. But the situation brightens up when we see how warmly European audience welcome us. The audience doesn’t let you go after performance. They applaud long, get the autographs and say kind words. Artists sometimes ‘complain’ that the curtain calls are painfully long...

I should say so it is nice that my performance was presented to the European audience and people meet it so warmly. (Aleksandra Tikhomirova is the author of choreography and creator of the 4th act of Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, or Another Christmas Story by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.) I am pleased to feel it. Classical music is the vehicle of spirituality. And Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s music is the treasure that attracts its extraordinary melodiousness and lyricism, depth and emotionality. A person needs contact with the things, which his or her heart and soul respond to. If the audience is ‘empty’, it is the indicator of the ‘value’ of the performance. But if the story touches the audience and you cannot remain indifferent to the performance, that means our mission is accomplished. And every time we want the people completely plunge in the action on the stage, empathize with the characters and left the theatre inspired.
