Salome

For more than a hundred years, Richard Strauss’ opera has haunted directors and artists who try to answer the questions hidden in Salome. What is the “Dance of the Seven Veils” and why does the encounter of Salome and Jochanaan lead to disaster? The Belarusian Bolshoi had never dealt with staging a biblical story until the principal stage director of the theatre Mikhail Pandzhavidze once decided: Salome ought to be in the repertoire! Soloists have already learned their parts, the first rehearsals have begun, and journalists wonder what kind of production it will be considering there have always been divergent opinions of this opera.

The Bolshoi Theatre, my love!

In the last issue of Parterre Magazine we asked our audience to participate in the contest and send congratulations to the 85th anniversary of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus. Thank you for your warm words and sincere emotions! We will try to place all your congratulations in our official social networks. It was very difficult to determine the winner. And finally we did it! The authors of the touching letters, which we publish today, came to see Carmen on 25 May, the birthday of the theatre. The legendary Georges Bizet’s opera became a symbol of the Belarusian Bolshoi, because this production marked the beginning of our theatre. It was 85 years ago.…

Lighting designer Nina Ivankina:

The whole era - as one moment!.. ‘There is no happier and wonderful place for me,’ the lighting designer Nina Ivankina said. 50 years ago she came to the Belarusian Bolshoi. But then she had no idea that she stays here almost for all life.

Mission is Possible.
