It's not Opera – it's fireworks!


Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti will be the bright and cheerful beginning of the 9th Minsk International Christmas Opera Forum. This is what the production team promise.

Don Pasquale, a rich old bachelor, wants to marry his nephew Ernesto to a rich bride. However, the young man does not agree with the choice of his uncle. He loves a beautiful widow Norina, who felt the same way. Don Pasquale threatens to cut Ernesto off and even disinherit him by marrying, if Ernesto keeps resisting the good match arranged by his uncle. Don Pasquale wants to get rid of the young man as soon as possible, as he decided to marry on the brink of his 70th birthday. It is a beginning of Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, which, according to critics, "the most remarkable creation of the composer." The premiere of this comic opera will take place on 13 December.

We want to add that the production team on the stage of the Belarusian Bolshoi includes: principal stage director and recipient of the Francysk Skaryna Medal Mikhail Pandzhavidze, principal conductor and Honoured Artist of Ukraine Viktor Ploskina, principal set designer, recipient of the Francysk Skaryna Medal and laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Kostiuchenko, principal сhorus master, People’s Artist of Belarus and laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus Nina Lomanovich and costume designer Ekaterina Shimanovich.

The performance features young soloists Andrei Seliutsin, Andrey Klipo, Dzianis Yantsevich, Andrei Matyushonok, Alexander Mikhniuk, Victoria Krasinskaya (probationer group), Anastasia Khrapitskaya (probationer group), etc.

We must say that for the first time Donizetti's Don Pasquale appeared on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus in 1977. It was staged by Iosif Abramis and Yuri Alexandrov.
