Orchestra musicians of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus triumphantly completed their tour throughout the cities of Germany and Switzerland, which took place in three stages in December and February. Within the project Disney in Concert, Belarusian musicians and German singers performed music from famous Walt Disney’s films and animated cartoons. Concerts, which took place at major sport arenas in Cologne, Munich, Oberhausen, Braunschweig, Zurich and other cities, gathered thousands of spectators. The concerts were conducted by maestro Wilhelm Keitel, who invites the Symphony orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre to take part in such concerts for years.
‘It's always a pleasure to work when the audience welcomes us warmly,’ clarinetist Denis Porechin said. ‘We played music from everyone's favorite and famous Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King , Aladdin, soundtracks from more modern animated cartoons, as well as music from very old Pinocchio and even Fantasia, created in the 1940s. This cartoon was drawn by Walt Disney himself; here is Paul Dukas’ music, which is based on Goethe's ballad The Sorcerer's Apprentice. Once (for the cartoon) it was recorded by the orchestra under the direction of the legendary conductor Leopold Stokowski. This is a rather complex orchestral work. In this project, the cartoon was on the big screen, and we played it.
Our orchestra, German theatre actors, musical soloists and pop artists performed also songs from Disney movies. Such concerts are quite popular format and audience welcomes them warmly.’
