Koutcher VS Volkova

 

This opera was one of the first works in the history of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus. The first production of Rimsky-Korsakov's The Tsar's Bride on the Minsk stage dates back to 1933, with the legendary Larisa Alexandrovskaya as Lyubasha. Just five years later, a new production team worked with the play. The third production was performed in 1950. And for 59 years, several generations of brilliant artists participated in this performance. Over the years, the leading roles were performed by: Tamara Nizhnikova, Irina Shikunova, Natalia Kostenko, Lyudmila Zlatova, Tamara Glagoleva, Elena Bundeleva (Marfa), Larisa Alexandrovskaya, Lidia Galushkina, Svetlana Danilyuk, Natalia Rudneva, Nagima Galeeva (Lyubasha), Yuri Bastrikov, Nikolai Moiseenko, Arkady Savchenko, Vladimir Petrov (Gryaznoy), Isidor Bolotin, Eduard Pelageichenko, Viktor Strelchenya (Lykov), Mikhail Druzhina, Viktor Chernobaev, Alexander Keda (Sobakin), and others.The famous musicians Gennady Provatorov, Lev Lyakh, Tatyana Kolomiytseva, Vyacheslav Chernukho-Volich and others conducted this opera.

 

In 2015 this masterpiece of Russian music returned to the Bolshoi Theatre. For this production director Mikhail Pandzhavidze and set designer Alexander Kostiuchenko were awarded a Special Prize in Arts and Culture. A little later, the opera received the National Theatre Award, becoming the best opera performance of 2016. Of course the credit goes to the entire production team: conductor Nikolai Koliadko, director Mikhail Pandzhavidze, designers Alexander Kostiuchenko (set design) and Nina Gurlo (costumes), chorusmaster Nina Lomanovich and opera soloists.

 

This production will be performed on 25 October. In the evening, the audience will see the drama of human passions against the background of the inhuman events of the Ivan the Terrible era. Two divas of the world opera Nadine Koutcher and Oksana Volkova will compete for the heart of Stanislav Trifonov. Solely on stage. Also the performance will feature  Oleg Melnikov (Skuratov), Alexander Mikhniuk (Lykov), Alexander Zhukov (Bomelius), Svetlana Marusevich (Saburova), Marina Moroz (Dunyasha), Marina Aksentsova (Petrovna).

 

Nikolai Koliadko will conduct.
