On 21 and 22 November, the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus presented the premiere of Charles Gounod’s Faust, directed by Anna Motornaya.

In our theatre, the opera story of the legendary doctor was staged before, and each time it was produced by no less legendary masters: for the first time Belarusian artists presented Faust in 1928, it was the first production of the so-called progenitor of the theatre, the musical college, created under the artistic direction of A.Bessmertny and performed in the Belarusian language; the second production was made in 1950 by conductor T.Kolomiytseva, director V.Shakhrai, designer S.Nikolaev and choreographer K.Muller; the third production premiered in 1972, its creative team included conductor I.Abramis, director S.Stein, designer E.Zhdan, choreographer S.Drechin. This production was in the theatre’s repertoire until the 1990s.

The current production of the story of the legendary doctor Faust is, according to the words of the director, “the same story: a story that makes you think about who we are, why we are here, and what we should do so that those who come after us live better than we do, or at least think about what should not be lost.”
