BALL-2021. NEW FORMAT

It is the 12th time that the Bolshoi will hold a New Year’s Ball on the night of January 13th/14th. The format of the event will be a pleasant surprise even for our regular audiences: there will be more dances. But the main thing is that those who decide to take part in the main programme of the ball, purchase a ticket and attend the rehearsals will be able to perform... on the main stage of the theatre! It was about this surprise that Yuliya Dziatko told us. It is the fifth ball the Honoured Artist of the Republic of Belarus is working on, and it promises to be special for Yuliya.

Polonaise, country dance, three different waltzes, polka, French and Virginia quadrilles – these are the dances announced by Yuliya Dziatko for the main programme of the ball, which will consist of two parts. During the intermission, the orchestra will also play in the foyer, and the audience will be able to walk in a free form, for example, in a waltz. By the way, a variety of interesting entertaining events will take place in the foyer, starting from 8 p.m. And please note that the New Year’s Ball will last until 1 a.m.

It is planned that the main dance programme of the ball will be interspersed with impressive vocal and ballet numbers performed by the theatre’s stars. In other words, the participants will have a unique opportunity to be on the same stage with the renowned masters of the Bolshoi.

‘Traditionally, the right to participate in rehearsals is granted by a ticket to the Big New Year’s Ball. We kindly ask you to make a decision about your participation in the programme of the ball at the very beginning of the rehearsal process, preferably before 1 December,’ Yuliya Dziatko adds. ‘And another important, I would say, essential point is that women must wear floor-length ball gowns; for men, tailcoats, tuxedos or beautiful elegant suits will do. Please also note that dance partners are not provided.’

The 12th New Year’s Ball at the Bolshoi is being prepared by: conductors Ivan Kostyakhin, a recipient of the Francysk Skaryna Medal, and Aleh Lessoun; director Natalia Kuzmenkova; choreographer, Honoured Artist of the Republic of Belarus Yuliya Dziatko; director of concerts at the Larisa Aleksandrovskaya Chamber Hall Elena Medyakova; designers Ekaterina Bulgakova and Ekaterina Shimanovich; principal chorus master, People’s Artist of Belarus Nina Lomanovich.

Please note that wearing face masks is compulsory during the dance rehearsals.
