The sun, rain, thunderstorms, storm... During the three days of the festival “Evenings of the Bolshoi Theatre at the Radziwill Castle”, Nesvizh and its guests experienced a lot. But nothing could stop the true fans of art. All the performances of the summer festival on 25, 26 and 27 June were sold out.

The residence of the Radziwill family has long been a second home for the Belarusian theatre and the main summer festival venue of the open-air format. Ballet and opera stars, chorus artists and orchestra musicians, and other employees (over 300 people!) for the 11th time left their native walls to give the guests of old Nesvizh the joy of meeting with beautiful music.

It is no coincidence that “Promenade” featuring French music was the first concert of the festival. After all, they say Nesvizh is small Paris. The audience was invited to the “Promenade” by opera soloists Elena Salo, Pavel Trofimik, pianist Tatiana Ivanova and director Natalia Kuzmenkova.

At the press conference for journalists, where the speakers included general director of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus Viachaslau Harbuzau, artistic director of the theatre Valentin Elizariev, artistic director of the Belarusian Capella ensemble Viktor Skorobogatov, deputy chairman of the Nesvizh District Executive Committee Alexander Baltenkov, director of the National Historical and Cultural Museum Nesvizh Dmitry Yashchenko, the idea that it is so amazing to plunge into the atmosphere of the summer festival again sounded like a refrain. The festival that the audience missed. And this was evidenced by the fact that it was impossible to buy tickets two weeks before the Evenings. And the venue of the open-air festival was not once chosen by chance: it was here, in Nesvizh, that Belarusian opera and ballet were born.

Viktor Skorobogatov presented his new project – a concert of Belarusian and foreign vocal and organ music of the 20th century – in one of the most beautiful churches in Europe. Under the arches of the Church of Corpus Domini, the audience enjoyed deep voices of Irina Kuchinskaya, Natalia Akinina, Yuri Gorodetsky, and Sergey Lazarevich, accompanied by Svetlana Nemogai who played an old organ and pianist Larisa Terekhova.

In the evening, the festival was solemnly opened by the semi-staged version of Verdi’s Nabucco. Moreover, the guests of the Evenings enjoyed an absolute premiere: the production had not been presented to the Minsk audience. The creative team included conductor Aleh Lessoun, director Galina Galkovskaya, chorus master Nina Lomanovich. The main roles in the story of biblical times were performed by leading opera soloists, namely Stanislav Trifonov (Nabucco), Nina Scharubina (Abigaille), Andrei Valentii (Zaccaria), Oksana Volkova (Fenena), Aleksey Mikutel (Ismaile).

On the afternoon of 26 June, the audience could attend two completely different concerts. Opera soloists Yuri Gorodetski, Marina Moroz, Dzianis Yantsevich and director Daria Potaturko presented the literary and musical composition The Blizzard, which was permeated with the soulful music of Georgy Sviridov (pianist Tatyana Panasyuk). And the next project, prepared by Tatiana Tretiak and the string quintet Serenada, took us to Italy, Spain and Cuba: this incendiary music was played in the concert “Always in My Heart”.

On the evening of 26 June, we were covered by “The Night of Metamorphoses” – an interesting musical project by Galina Galkovskaya. It was a really amazing programme, and not in respect of the action, but also in respect of the musical material. The audience enjoyed the fireworks of recognizable works by Bernstein, Webber, Galliano, Miller, Offenbach, Debussy, Stein, Mercury. A constellation of favourite opera and ballet artists appeared in unusual images: Dmitry Shabetya, Sergey Lazarevich, Elena Sinyavskaya, Tatyana Gavrilova, Yuri Gorodetski, Artem Bankovsky, Andrei Matyushonok, Alexander Mikhniuk, Taras Prysiazhniuk, Victor Mendelev, Tatiana Tretiak, Stanislav Trifonov, Dzianis Yantsevich, Vladimir Petrov, Mikhail Kanstantsinau (percussion), Olga Gaiko, Irina Telepneva (piano), Elena Bundeleva, Nina Scharubina, Elena Tabolich, Anastasia Malashkevich, Diana Trifonova, Anastasia Moskvina, Olga Malinouskaya, Klavdiya Potemkina, Marta Danusevich, Maria Galkina, Yury Bolotko, etc. The concert was conducted by maestro Aleh Lessoun.

On Sunday, 27 June, the summer festival of the Bolshoi Theatre at the Radziwill Castle continued with the concert “A. M. A. D. I. S. Brass. Invites”. The artists of the ensemble Dzmitry Harbachuk (trumpet), Aliaksandr Antanovich (trumpet), Pavel Kunts (French horn), Andrei Mikhalevich (trombone), Viktar Yarynouski (tuba), Mikhail Kanstantsinau (percussion), opera soloists Elena Tabolich, Alexander Mikhniuk, as well as Viktor Puzynya (clarinet) and Yuliya Shcherbakova (piano) presented a sunny mood to the audience who came to the theatre hall of the castle.

The festival ended with a concert “Above the Sky” from the musical trio Gloria (Natalia Murzina, flute, Katsiaryna Akavitskaya, cello, and the head of ensemble Nadzeya Senkevich, violin). The programme included both instrumental numbers and vocal works performed by Anastasia Moskvina, Diana Trifonova and Marina Likhosherst.

The 11th summer festival “Evenings of the Bolshoi Theatre at the Radziwill Castle” has already become history. But we will return to this small Belarusian Paris next year.
