She was born in Minsk, but has been living in St Petersburg for about 25 years. The prima donna of the Mariinsky Theatre has long performed on the stages of the largest opera houses of the world. She is finalist of the most prestigious singing competitions Operalia in Los Angeles and BBC in Cardiff. She appeared at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro Real in Madrid, Opéra national de Paris, Metropolitan Opera in New York, Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, and at the famous festivals in Salzburg and Edinburgh. For the first time the audience of the Belarusian Bolshoi heard her seven years ago at a concert dedicated to the Union State Day. Perhaps, since then, opera fans have not let the owner of a luxurious mezzo-soprano out of their sight, waiting for the opportunity to hear the singer again in her native Minsk. Perhaps, since then, opera admirers have been waiting for the opportunity to hear the singer again in her native Minsk. And now the Belarusian Ekaterina Semenchuk will perform in Minsk again!  On 17 December, within the 11th Minsk International Christmas Opera Forum, prima donna's recital will take place. ‘If I hadn't had a dream to sing on the stage of the Belarusian Bolshoi since childhood, I probably wouldn't be here now,’ Ekaterina admitted.

On the evening of 17 December, a friend of our theatre maestro from Azerbaijan Ayyub Guliyev will conduct. The bass-baritone Maharram Huseynov (also from the Mariinsky Theatre) will be a guest soloist.

In 2016 the principal conductor of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre (Baku) maestro Ayyub Guliyev (together with Andrei Ivanou) was the musical director of the ballet Love and Death choreographed by Olga Kostel to Polad Bülbüloğlu’s music. The Honoured Artist of Azerbaijan delighted the audience at the Belarusian Bolshoi more than once: he conducted La traviata and Aida by Verdi, Carmen by Bizet and Iolanta by Tchaikovsky.

On 17 December, Guliyev and Semenchuk will meet on stage for the first time. But the musicians, of course, know each other well. But with Maharram Huseynov, as the conductor admits, they are friends. As a soloist of the Accademia Teatro alla Scala, Magerram shone at various theatres in Italy (Rome, Rieti, Pesaro, etc). At the Teatro alla Scala he has performed the roles of Ours-Kan (Cherubini’s Ali Baba, ou Les quarante voleurs), Dulcamara (L’elisir d’amore), the Pastor (Khovanshchina conducted by Valery Gergiev), the Poet (Salieri’s Prima la musica e poi le parole) and Count Monterone (Rigoletto). This year began very successfully for the Azerbaijani singer: Maharram Huseynov performed in three productions of the Mariinsky Theatre (Don Giovanni, La bohème and Tosca).
