Swan Lake in Mexico

On 8 February a large press conference for the local media with the participation of our artists and People's Artist of Belarus, artistic director of the ballet Yury Trayan took place. On 9 February on the stage of Teatro de Cancun the ballet company of the Belarusian Bolshoi performed the first performance of the Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. And now they are going to Merida, Villahermosa, Celaya, Irapuato, Puebla, Morelia, Guadalajara, Aguascalientes, Zacatecas, Torreon, Chihuahua, Juarez, Matamoros, Nuevo Laredo, Tampico, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Queretaro, San Luis Potosi, of course, Mexico City and others. A month and a half of touring, 35 performances in 45 days, big moving are ahead of them. The tour of the Belarusian ballet will last almost until the end of March, on 25 March artists will be in Minsk. It will be the second tour to this beautiful country for our theatre. Last time the audience warmly welcomed Don Quixote.

Leading ballet dancers of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus went to Mexico: Irina Eromkina, Yana Shtangei, Aleksandra Chizhik, Nadzeya Filipava, Egor Azarkevich, Artem Bankovsky, Anton Kravchenko, Konstantin Geronik, Takatoshi Machiyama.

We recall that our ballet company was on tour in Germany and Austria from 18 December to 22 January. During this time the artists gave 29 performances. And during these wonderful winter holidays all tickets to the Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s magical Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, or Another Christmas Story were sold out even on the biggest venues.

The audience of Berlin, Bremen, Frankfurt, Hanover, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Munich, Vienna, Salzburg and other cities of Germany and Austria meets our artists so warmly for the seventh time. ‘Touring is always a big responsibility. We must understand that we represent our country and theatre first of all. And it is not just big words,’ People's Artist of Belarus, artistic director of the ballet Yury Trayan said. ‘Undoubtedly, it is always pleasure when European audience welcomes you so warmly.’

Every performance was sold out. And it is despite the fact that there were large venues, which are designed for fifteen hundred or two thousand spectators. ‘If there are a lot of people on the performance, then it's easier to dance,’ Trayan smiled. There are many touring ballet companies in these Christmas and New Year days, so the competition is fierce. ‘I can’t say that we have been affected somehow. We played to a full house, and that's what matters!’ Trayan continued. ‘It is always a pleasure to see those, who attend the performances of Belarusian ballet for many years. It is the best award. But the German public is quite sentimental and well educated. They have seen a lot, including the performances of the highest class and quality. This is serious and nonrandom viewer. Therefore, it is a pleasure to perform for them. And a round of applause is what brings you happiness!’

It wasn’t the first tour for most artists, but not for our principal dancer Artem Bankovsky. The first tour is always a special excitement. But Yury Trayan set Artem to dance the first performance of Swan Lake intentionally. And the dancer did an admirable job with the role of Siegfried. ‘This promising, talented young artist made more and more skilled and mature steps in every performance make. And I'm only happy for Artem!’ Trayan admitted.
