Artistic life of the winners of the Minsk International Singing Competition now

The Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition is the only singing contest for professional opera singers in Belarus. This year our competition will celebrate its first anniversary – 5 years. During that time it became known far beyond the neighboring and CIS countries and geography of its participants includes more than 20 countries.

For many participants the Minsk Singing Competition served as the platform for a successful performing future, opportunity to gain support and draw attention of concert agencies and theatres. The performers, whose names now appear in the posters of the best theatres of the world, are among the winners and laureates of the competition.

Ramiz Usmanov is the grand prize winner of the 1st Minsk Competition. The audience and jury were mesmerized by his soulful Rodolfo’s aria from Puccini’s La Boheme. Music critics called him “the Uzbek Nightingale”. He has repeatedly appeared on the stage of the Belarusian Bolshoi. In gala concerts of the Minsk International Christmas Opera Forum he performed the role of Alfredo in Giuseppe Verdi’s La traviata. In 2015 the singer received the title of People's Artist of Uzbekistan and last year opera admirers with a special passion followed the success of Ramiz Usmanov in the popular television competition "The Big Opera". In January 2018 the singer took part in the gala concert of Stars of Romansiada at the State Kremlin Palace in Moscow.

Opera admirers and critics called the grand prize winner of the 2nd Minsk International Singing Competition Nadezhda Pavlova ‘sensation in the world of opera’. She was awarded the Golden Mask National Theatre Award for the title role in Verdi's La traviata (staged by Robert Wilson and Theodor Currentzis). Music Critics Association also awarded this performance at the end of the season (2015/2016). The first singer’s recital in the Chamber Hall of the Moscow International House of Music became the part of the prize. The concert had a resounding success and undoubtedly joined the ranks of Nadezhda Pavlova's admirers. In March 2018 the Perm diva was awarded the title of the Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation.

Tigran Ohanyan became the grand prize winner of the 3rd Minsk Christmas Singing Competition. After the victory in Minsk he took part in "The Big Opera" TV show, where he took second place and earned love of millions of viewers. In 2016 he was awarded the prize of the President of Armenia, and also he received the special prize at Galina Vishnevskaya International Opera Singers Competition. In 2016 with the philharmonic orchestra led by Eduard Topchjan he participated in the performance of Dvořak’s Requiem, which was dedicated to the Armenian genocide, and also he took part in concert on the occasion of Pope Francis's visit to Yerevan. In 2017 Tigran Ohanyan successfully performed the role of the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto at the Bolshoi theatre of Belarus, also he appeared at the State Academic Chapel of St. Petersburg (tenor in Mozart’s and Verdi’s Requiem) and opened the concert season at the Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste, performing the role of Lensky in Eugene Onegin.

Sargis Bazhbeuk-Melikyan got the grand prize of the 4th Minsk Christmas Singing Competition. Armenian bass became best among 111 participants from 12 countries. In the final round of the competition, which was held in the format of a real theatrical performance, the young singer performed Khan Konchak’s aria from Alexander Borodin’s Prince Igor with talent and skill, won the sophisticated Minsk audience and became one of its absolute favorites. ‘From the first days, as I got on the stage, I felt a strange feeling of homeyness and endless freedom. I have never experienced such feelings anywhere else. I felt a surge of energy even entering the opera house. It's like when you come home tired after a hard day and when you get to the yard of your house, you feel better,’ Sargis Bazhbeuk-Melikyan said in an interview. In June this year he won another prize in his collection. At the 20th Contest of Voice Contests Winners, which was held within the 31st Sobinov Music Festival, the young bass was awarded the audience prize.
