On 1 July, the concept of Gloria Bruni's Pinocchio based on a fairy tale by Carlo Collodi was discussed during a meeting of the arts council. This opera was first performed in Hamburg in 2008. Then it was staged by theatres in Naples, Parma, London and other cities in Europe. In December, during the winter holidays, the fairytale story will appear on the Minsk stage. The production team include: conductor Vladimir Ovodok, director Natalia Baranovskaya, designer Lyubov Sidelnikova.
The composer Bruni created a Belarusian version of this opera for our theatre. Together with conductor Vladimir Ovodok they were looking for the best form of this work and it seems they have found it. ‘We hope that this production will also attract young audiences to such a beautiful and magical opera world. This is probably our main task,’ the conductor said.
The settings include: picturesque scenery, bright costumes, videos and even a cartoon series. As Lyubov Sidelnikova admitted, the audience will even see references to the works of Leonardo da Vinci.
According to the director Natalia Baranovskaya, it will be interesting for young artists to participate in the fairy tale: each role is bright and memorable .It requires not only vocal talent, but also acting. After all, everyone knows that children's audience is the most demanding, they don’t forgive falsity.
