‘Happy new season!’ sounds today in the halls of the theatre. After the summer vacation, colleagues and friends gathered in the Bolshoi. Traditionally, general meeting of the team took place at the theatre with participation of the general director Viachaslau Harbuzau and artistic director Valentin Elizariev.
The Minister of Culture Anatoly Markevich also came to the theatre, he personally congratulated the chief chorus master of the theatre, People's Artist of Belarus Nina Lomanovich on the double anniversary. He read out the congratulations from the president. The team also congratulated opera soloist Tatiana Tretiak with the title of the Honoured Artist of the Republic of Belarus and chorus artist Ilya Pevsner with the Francysk Skaryna Medal. We also warmly welcomed new artists who have found their second home – the theatre. The general director of the theatre Viachaslau Harbuzau told about the plans for the season.
Traditionally we will open new season with the premier. This year it will be Soltan’s King Stakh’s Wild Hunt (directed by Anna Motornaya), which was successfully performed at the end of 88th season. We are opening with an opera, but the first ballets will be performed on 10 and 11 September. It will be the magical Nutcracker by Pyotr Tchaikovsky staged by the legendary choreographer Valentin Elizariev.
On 11 September, the cozy Chamber Hall will open its new season with a concert "Masterpieces of World Opera". By the way, this year the string quintet "Serenada" celebrates its 15th anniversary. The group, which is headed by the charming soloist of the opera Tatiana Tretiak, will give the best concerts created during this time. So, on 15 September, the concert "The Evening of Art Song" will took place in the Chamber Hall.
Already on 12 September, we will hear the Honoured Artist of Russia Mikhail Gubsky on our stage. However, the Belarusian audience could estimate the highest professionalism of the Moscow soloist earlier: the guest artist of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia appeared on our stage in the roles of Herman and Calaf. This time, Mikhail Gubsky will perform the role of Radames in Verdi's Aida.
We are also waiting for “overseas guests” in October: on 16 October, Vladislav Sulimsky and Svetlana Kasyan will participate in the recital of the Belarusian opera diva Oksana Volkova. By the way, the Belarusian Sulimsky, a soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre, will appear on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus in the role of Macbeth in Verdi’s opera on 19 October.
On 30 and 31 October, a fairy tale will come to life on the stage of the theater. The production team under the direction of choreographer Yury Trayan is preparing to present the premiere –Shchedrin’s The Little Humpbacked Horse.
In the calendar of the Bolshoi, we will also see a new director's work by Oksana Volkova. The Honoured Artist of the Republic is working on the opera Samson et Dalila by Camille Saint-Saëns.
The next premieres of the season will be Donizetti’s L'elisir d'amore by Anna Motornaya and Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty by Valentin Elizariev.
Traditionally, we are waiting for guests from other theaters to participate in the Christmas Opera Forum in December, and in January we will hold the New Year's Ball at the Bolshoi.
As you can see, there are a lot of plans. Some have long been a tradition of the theater. But our main tradition is unchanged – every evening we are waiting for the audience to give them a holiday.
