The status of the guest artist of the theatre is given to the ones who are deemed most talented and gifted. The Belarusian Bolshoi offered this privilege to the three singers: Nadezhda Pavlova, Alexander Roslavlets and Mykhailo Malafii, and they gladly accepted.
‘Sensation in the world of opera,’ ‘The revelation and shock.... A bright, quivering and shining soprano with fabulous and easily taken top piano notes ...,’ ‘Exquisite musicality, emotion and dedication...,’ ‘A gentle and powerful voice of the supernova who erupted in Perm, fills the soul with unspeakable delight,’ all these words are about the magnificent singer Nadezhda Pavlova. The singer has long been admired by the theatre goers of Minsk. In 2015, her beautiful voice (soprano) and artistic talent earned her Grand Prize of the 2nd Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition and Audience Award. Then the singer was invited to perform in the gala concert of the 3rd Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition. In March 2017, the prima of Perm opera sang the role of Marfa on the Belarusian stage in the Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar's Bride. ‘It is a great honour and privilege to perform on the Belarusian stage,’ says Nadezhda, ‘Oh, and I love Minsk. Every time I come here, I have the feeling that your city is full of light! And there are so many bright, kind, responsive, open and hospitable people! And the way I am received at the Belarusian Bolshoi is just amazing: such warmth and sincerity always impress, and it is only natural to want to go back to where you are loved and accepted...”
Alexander Roslavets, bass, a native of Brest, Belarus, who studied at the St Petersburg Conservatory, then becoming a soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, has long been familiar to the audience of the Belarusian Bolshoi. He was awarded Special Prize at the 1st Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition in 2014. Then, on the stage of Belarusian Bolshoi he rekindled ‘Italian passions’ in the concert of young performers ‘La Canzone Italiana’, then, he turned into an arrogant, canny and cowardly Don Basilio in Rossini's comic opera the Barber of Seville; as Prince Gremin, husband of Tatiana Larina in Tchaikovsky's opera Eugene Onegin, he made the main character cry. It was the Belarusian Stage where he played Banko which is one of the most difficult parts in Giuseppe Verdi's Macbeth. Alexander is a participant of many international vocal competitions. One of his recent victories is 2nd Prize at the Galina Vishnevskaya International Opera Singers Competition in 2016.
Mykhailo Malafii is also a regular guest srtist at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus. At the 2nd Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition the resident of the Lviv Opera was awarded First Prize and Audience award. ‘It feels like home here in Minsk. No, not even that: I AM home,’ smiles the Ukrainian tenor. ‘I hope the Belarusian audience loves me in return judging by the fact that I received the highest award, Audience Award...’
Once again, the rapturous applause that rippled the Bolshoi Theatre following Mikhail’s performances is a vivid testimony to that: in April, he sang the part of Riccardo in Un ballo in maschera by Verdi, in October he was shot... as Lensky in Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky, in November he sang the challenging part of Alfredo paired with the brilliant Nadezhda Pavlova in the title role in the opera La Traviata by Verdi, in December he took part in the Gala concert of world opera stars in the framework of Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition.
