Moscow Tour

The Natalia Kasatkina and Vladimir Vasilyov State Academic Theatre of Classical Ballet have long been known as the Moscow Classical Ballet. For more than half a century, Kasatkina and Vasilyov have created a theatre with their own repertoire and their own company, which is distinguished by original choreography and a high-class performances.  The repertoire is based on Kasatkina and Vasilyov’s own performances, the very first of which were staged on the stages of the Moscow Bolshoi and Mariinsky Theatres. Maya Plisetskaya, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Svetlana Zakharova, Sergei Polunin and many others perfrormed the leading roles in their ballets at various times. Today, more than 70 ballet dancers work and improve their skills in the theatre. The leading roles feature winners of international competitions, the People's and Honoured Artists of Russia. ‘All genres, except boring!’ This is the slogan, which is written on the official website of the theatre. 

Minsk audience knows the performances of Moscow Classical Ballet. Last year, Moscow company performed on the stage of the Musical Theatre. At one time, Minsk audience of the Belarusian Bolshoi applauded the artists of the State Academic Classical Ballet Theatre: Kasatkina and Vasilyov presented Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du printemps and The Firebird. This time they will perform three production: Prokofiev’s Cinderella on 11 and 12 July; Delibes’s Coppelia on 13 and 14 July; La Dame aux Camélias to the music of Verdi (arranged by Salnikov) on 15 and 16 July.

Cinderella is one of the most famous and beloved fairy tales in the whole world. A magical story, which is more than three centuries old, acquires vivid colors in the production by Natalia Kasatkina and Vladimir Vasilev. There is something for everyone in it. Here is the story of two loving hearts who found each other against all odds, and the parable of unconditional kindness, which is always rewarded, and miracles, that happen when you really expect them. Cinderella will delight the audience with a plenty of lyrical waltzes and spectaculars. A colorful dance extravaganza and a truly magical atmosphere…This is how the choreographic embodiment of the famous fairy tale is supposed to be.

Prokofiev’s Cinderella will take place on 11 and 12 July.

Coppelia is often called "The last French romantic ballet". The famous choreographer George Balanchine noted that if Giselle is recognized the greatest tragedy in the history of ballet, then Coppelia is the greatest ballet comedy. 

The plot is based on the short story The Sandman by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann. This is a story about a young man who fell in love with a mechanical doll. By the way, this story is especially relevant nowadays: artificial beauty standards are so popular all over the world. This ballet combines the traditions of French, Italian and Russian classical choreography. As always in the productions of Natalia Kasatkina and Vladimir Vasilev, the beautiful classical ballet takes on a new form, becomes dynamic and exciting.

Léo Delibes’s Coppelia will take place on on 13 and 14 July.

La Dame aux Camélias by Alexandre Dumas fils is the sad story of the courtesan Marguerite Gautier, which provide the basis for this ballet.

Alexandre Dumas fils' novel has long had at least one famous ballet adaptation. In the late 1970s, choreographer John Neumeier (together with the Stuttgart Ballet companty) staged choreography to this novel to the Frédéric Chopin’s music. The musical solution for La Dame aux Camélias by Natalia Kasatkina and Vladimir Vasilyov turned out to be fundamentally different: composer Salnikov performed for the ballet a new arrangement of music from the legendary La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi. 

La Dame aux Camélias to Verdi’s music (arranged by Pavel Salnikov) will take place on 15 and 16 July.
