Victory Day Concert

78 years have passed since the Great Victory in the Great Patriotic War on 9 May 1945. This holiday is still the most important for most of us. Wonderful war songs are among other things which do not give us a chance to forget about it. These songs  helped our great–grandfathers and grandfathers not to give up, not to lose hope, to survive, to fight and to win.

Victory Day concerts have already become a tradition for the Belarusian Bolshoi. Despite the fact that the theater is preparing many other projects, no less bright and interesting, this one becomes special. There is always a bright, exciting and heartfelt atmosphere on this day. It is noticeable, that both the performers and the audience have a special – deep – feeling about this programme.

This is the first directorial work on such a difficult topic for the Honoured Artist of Belarus Oksana Volkova. ‘Of course, I’m really nervous,’ Oksana admits. ‘The theme of war and peace is incredibly important for each of us. I still remember that in my childhood, stories about that terrible time did not let me fall asleep, I always thought: the main thing is that this must never happen again...’

The concert will have a traditional format: with an orchestra on stage. ‘Dmitry Hvorostovsky used to make such programmes,’ Oksana Volkova added. ‘Concerts dedicated to Victory Day always have their own audience, who comes to the theatre every year. I hope that what I want to offer to the public will find a response in their hearts, because this is really a holiday with tears in their eyes…’
