Simply… Genius

Everyone who comes to the Chamber Hall on 5 February will enjoy a unique programme.

This is guaranteed by the author of the concert “Dmitri Shostakovich. The Music of the Soviet Country”, pianist, soloist of the Belarusian State Philharmonic, artistic director of the “Musical Salon” Tatyana Starchenko.

‘Dmitri Shostakovich passed away in 1975, but his amazing music is still modern. Naturally, as any genius, the composer was ahead of his epoch. Indeed, his music language is not simple, but it’s such a pleasure to listen to his works or to perform them!’ Tatyana confesses. ‘The programme can be really called exclusive, because it was created specifically for this cast of singers.’

Dmitry Kapilov will begin the concert with ‘The Preface to My Complete Works’ by Shostakovich. One should not be afraid of this “boring” name, as the composer had a colossal sense of humour, and Dmitry, a bass of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus, reveals the comic aspect of Shostakovich perfectly well. Not every artist has this rare gift. But wait! Kapilov will also sing Five Art Songs to the texts from Crocodile Magazine! One day Shostakovich took a bet whether he would be able to compose music to the letters which were sent to the editorial office of the magazine. And the composer did! When Kapilov brilliantly sings the texts, the audience bursts into Homeric laughter. It is worth seeing and hearing. The melodious Shostakovich is different in Spanish songs which will disclose the beauty of Natalia Akinina’s voice. The second part of the programme includes the genius cycle “From Jewish Folk Poetry” which will be performed by Natalia Akinina, Tatyana Petrova and Yanosh Nelepa and can be heard only at our theatre. Indeed, they are very versatile performers who possess very different voices, but together they embody real harmony!
